Dawg, Blade, Horse, and Gadget, were four small-time, neighborhood, street thugs, who found each other and decided to form a gang, but hardened criminals they weren't. Weren't, that is, until they tried their hands at car jacking, which led to a guilt ridden rape of an innocent young woman, and then an amateurish failed attempt at robbing a liquor store while nearly getting caught by POPO. From then on they tried bigger crimes while failing at most. Between their inept attempts at criminal activity, Blade, Horse, and Gadget partied with Dawg's sister, Samantha, or Sam for short, who was a strung out crack addict, and who didn't want to trick on the streets, while preferring to date the gang members. Dawg had no control over his sister, and stayed out of her way. Actually, he knew that no matter what, she was going to trick to get dope money, and preferred she date the gang members rather than risk injury on the streets. Dawg, the oldest and the leader, managed to keep them out of drug distribution, fearing the consequences of one of them getting caught, and ratting out the rest. Because he witnessed what drugs had done to his older and only sister, Sam, he enforced his resolve with an iron hand. But little did Dawg know that he would become a murderer by killing a rock-slinger who was attempting to collect on a dope bill by violently raping his sister. The killing of the belligerent dope pusher leads to a drive-by shooting, a high-speed car chase through the streets of Detroit, and the death of an innocent individual. Dawg's refusal to get rid of the murder weapon, and while using it in defense of one of his gang's members who was involved in a drive-by shooting after a rowdy house party, it would inevitably leads to the arrest of all.

To look at the building, it appeared like many other aging hotels in Detroit, but the Open Arms was not as it appeared. To the casual passer-by, there was no indication of the nefarious activities that went on behind its deteriorating walls. Not even Leonard, who, because of the cheap rent, chose to live there, unlike so many of its residence, had any idea of the corruption, drug use, and prostitution that was tolerated in the grimy rooms.

  • - A tragic time in Detroit's history

Walking Mary, an old, experienced, prostitute, made 12th street her stroll. She, with her close friend, Denise, plied their trade together, as well as enjoyed a consciousness robbing, heroin high, together, while nodding in Sam's 12th street dope house. Had she known that her death at the hands of a crooked cop, Officer Spells, would be the spark that ignited the 1967 12th street riot, and cause the death of her dear friend, Denise, she would have given up her feigning and tricking and put herself into treatment. Greg, and Jordan, two close friends, who visited 12th and used Mary and Denise's special talents, as well as two ex-cons and looters, Robert and Ray, are just a few individuals who's lives will be touched by the civil unrest. As you read this work, keep in mind that some of the sorted details of events depicted here in are true as they happened. Several events are depicted as were experienced by the central characters of the story. Many other graphic events and places, are no more than fictitious fabrications cooked up in the mind of the author, to keep the story flowing. The soul purpose of this work is to give the reader a general idea of the atmosphere, before, during, and after the civil unrest, commonly called the Detroit riot of 1967, while telling an entertaining tale, as experienced by several individuals. Although, it is commonly accepted that the "civil unrest" began when police vice squad officers executed a raid on an after-hours, drinking club, or "blind pig" in a predominantly black neighborhood located at Twelfth Street and Clairmount Avenue, others, who were there at the beginning of the riot, might disagree. I am not trying to dispute where, or how, the disturbance began. I'm only writing from the point of view of someone who was there at the onset. It is very possible that the location and origination of the unrest could have had more than one focal point. I'll leave that to others to decide.

Thirty years ago, a distant alien race, whose home planet was in danger because of their failing red dwarf star, tried to invade Earth and kill off all life using mind controlling, nanobots. They had visions of eventually coming to a lifeless Earth and begin terraforming the planet to suit their needs. Thanks to the unusual talents of Dorothy Keets, an inspired physicist, the world was spared from the almost unstoppable alien weapon, but the aliens were nothing if not persistent. Ten years following the first attack, they tried again, this time coming to Earth while ensconced in their nearly indestructible vessels, and using several alien techniques and different weapons - they nearly succeeded. The world's armies, after failing to so much as slow the second attack, called upon the same brilliant, slightly older, scientist, who helped stop the first attack. She, while devising a unique, devastating, weapon, was able to stop the attack. Behind her second victory, she was recognized as a worldwide hero, but her weapon "The Orb Weapon" was so unique - so overpowering - so maniacal, and possibly world ending, the President of the United States ordered it deactivated, and secured inside a vault deep inside the bowls of Area 51 where it would remain to never be used again - at least, that was the plan. The aliens, now repelled for the second time, were already making plans to return - and they did while bringing with them new weapons, but their attack, again, was thwarted. Dorothy's unconventional fearful weapon was un-crated, dusted off, and with a few modifications and enhancements, implemented to save the world once more. Not only were the desperate aliens repelled for the third time, but while retreating to their home world, accidentally left behind one of their own, who was quickly captured by the United States military and then sequestered in Area-51 to be studied. Dorothy was able to gain access to and establish a line of communication with the extremely intelligent alien, and while displaying sympathy for the creature, gave it a name, George. While sensing Dorothy's compassion, George became friends with her, and taught her the secret of deep space travel. He taught her how to construct stable wormholes, while unintentionally giving humankind the ability to strike back at his home world and the still antagonistic, aggressive, alien species. Norman Wells, the then President of the United States, now becoming exasperated behind the repeated alien attacks, and using the newly learned wormhole technology, sent a flotilla of orb weapon armed space fighters to the offending alien's planet while totally destroying it with only a few of the alien species able to escape the destruction to become orphans in the cosmos, and to never be able to attack Earth, again. The final defeat of the aliens being a global effort, all of humankind united in peace. President Wells, being a visionary, wasn't content with the victory over the aliens - he had grand plans for the use of the newly learned alien technology. While wanting the worldwide peace to continue, he proposed a plan to build a massive deep space exploration vessel, later dubbed, Messenger Two, and while enlisting the efforts of virtually every nation on Earth, his design to maintain global peace succeeded as the entire world came together to build the space going city. With the building of Messenger, humankind's dreams of becoming a galactic explorer were finally realized. Now having the ability to go anywhere they wished, it was decided to find another planet in the galaxy suitable for human colonization. In this, the final episode, that planet is discovered, and named Novus. Unfortunately, the much anticipated colonization of Novus fails, while setting into action events resulting in a truly tragic ending.

As long as man has inhabited this speck of dust in the infinite cosmos, he's been concerned with his meager existence and mortality. He's speculated about how life on Earth would end and wondered what catastrophic event would bring about his extinction. Not once did anyone in their wildest dreams envision the events that were now unfolding as possible threats to humanities existence -- yet it was happening. Beginning slowly at first and unusual in development, it was not considered the threat it was until it was nearly too late. The first hints of trouble were random and few, and didn't alarm the authorities or scientist, but continued to increase in global magnitude until they could no longer be ignored. It all began on a worldwide scale several days earlier with the appearance of millions, if not billions of strange objects innocuously descending from the heavens. When first viewed, everyone thought the objects were meteorites, possibly caused by the Earth passing through the remnants of a comet's tail. Many marveled at the beauty of the fireworks, while others were mortally frightened. Had they, the world's population and scientific community known the significance of the events that unfolded in the skies, everyone would have been very alarmed, indeed. The first hint that man was in trouble emerged in a small under developed village in the middle of nowhere on the plains of central Africa, and quickly manifest over the entire planet. It was after closer examination and then only after many bizarre, unprecedented, occurrences, was it discovered that these strange objects were anything but meteorites, and posed an undeniable threat to humankind and possibly all life on Earth.

  • - The Terraforming of Earth

Humankind's first contact with an intelligent extraterrestrial species was not friendly. Because their star, a dying red dwarf, would soon fail to provide life-supporting warmth, a distant alien species recognized Earth, a planet similar to their world, perfect for their needs. In preparation for the move to Earth, the highly intelligent entities implemented a cleverly devised nanobot attack in an attempt to eradicate all life on Earth. They planned to follow the attack by sending a detachment to terraform the planet and assure all life on Earth was eliminated by the time they arrived. At least that was their plan. Fortunately, they didn't recognize the resolve of the human species to survive. While enlisting the extraordinary talents of a gifted physicist, the first attack was thwarted, but the aliens were not deterred. They had no choice. It was move or perish. With the immediate threat eliminated, Earth's scientist searched for the origin of the sinister nanobots and learned they came from a planet called Gliese 581-d that was more than twenty light-years away. They began to study the giant, water-covered planet and its weak, red dwarf star. A ten year study via the Hubble Space Telescope showed little change, and then one day, scientist were shocked to see a mammoth flotilla of alien spaceships assemble near the distant planet and set out on a course that would bring them to Earth. But, because Gliese 581-d was so far away, the scientist weren't too concerned. Even if the alien ships could travel at light-speed, it was decided it would be over two decades before they arrived. Because Einstein predicted nothing other than a photon can travel at light-speed, a theory later proven with the discovery of the Higgs Field, the flotilla wasn't expected to arrive in this century unless they could construct a stable wormhole, something no one believed they could. However, as a precaution, the world leaders decided to keep a close eye on the mammoth flotilla, code named Target One, and begin working on countermeasures should Target One arrive. They assumed they will have developed more advanced technology, and would be able to repel any future attacks. Should Target One show up in Earth's space earlier than expected, it would be a battle between the might of the greater numbered humans and their determination, against the superior technology of the lesser numbered aliens, and the outcome could not be determined. That was ten years ago, and in episode two, the surveillance continues . . .

In episodes one, two, and three, a distant alien species whose home planet was in danger because of a failing red dwarf star, tried to eradicate all life on Earth and then terraform the planet to meet their needs. Thanks to the exceptional talents of two inspired physicist, who devised two unique weapons, each tailored to repel the desperate and repeated alien assaults, the world was spared not once, but twice. Humankind celebrated their victories and felt safe from future aggressions, but those celebrations were premature. A renegade alien Commander, now repelled for the second time, and against the orders of his Elders, contrived plans to return to Earth with a world-destroying weapon of his own - this time determined to succeed. The third assault was also rejected, and the aggressive alien flotilla returned home to rearm. However, the President of the United States refused to wait for another attack. While uniting the world in an unprecedented harmony of mutual cooperation, the visionary President amassed an armada of futuristic space-going destroyers, and using advanced wormhole technology, learned from a captured alien, sent the destroyers to atomize the aggressive alien's home planet. Now positive the Earth was safe from any future attacks, the President, in his last year in office, and using the radical new technology learned from the captured alien, proposed the construction of a deep space research vessel, actually, a space navigating city, to serve as a research platform with the intent of finding other worlds on which humankind would leave footprints and possibly colonize. That was nearly ten years ago and the building of the deep space exploration vehicle, dubbed, Messenger Two, is nearing completion . . .

Five finger discount is street slang for shoplifting, or just plain stealing. This story highlights the unwept misdeeds of several petty shoplifters, and reveals the consequences of their actions. Although, the motives driving several characters in this story are drug related, such is not the case in all pilfering situations. Extreme poverty, mental issues, the desire to simply own something not affordable, to, simply, wanting something to eat, are just a few reasons people steal from stores. I also include a tale about a hardened criminal who robs for no other reason than it's his nature. Also, included, for you business owners, is a less than comprehensive list of shoplifting techniques. Read, enjoy, and learn.

But with the aid of Old Ben, one of Boss's life long friends, and barber shop owner, she pulled herself together and managed to keep the whorehouse open, even getting more girls to join her stable. She, while using money Boss-man left her, purchased another house and hired another, retired, pimp, to run it. Okay, do you know someone who is thinking about committing suicide, or is that someone, you? Well, guess what - you aren't alone. According to the Matthew Silverman Memorial Foundation, many people think about suicide at some point in their life, and these thoughts about suicide can reflect the intense pain and sense of desperation that depression can bring. Having these thoughts does not mean you should act on them!
