Narco-terrorist Adolfo Zegarra Gálvan, a.k.a. El Moro, kills a deputy sheriff in Yaloquena County, Mississippi, and District Attorney Willie Mitchell Banks seeks the death penalty. The U.S. Justice Department battles Willie Mitchell to take control of the case to get information about El Cartel de Campeche from Zegarra, but Willie Mitchell refuses to turn over the defendant to the feds-he wants capital punishment for the murder of his friend. In the midst of the jurisdictional battle, the powerful drug cartel fights to free Zegarra, but so does another ultraviolent, shadowy group driven by a hatred of America and its culture-a group willing to kill as many Mississippians as necessary to prevent Willie Mitchell's trial of Zegarra-a group dedicated to bringing the criminal justice system to a halt in Mississippi and the entire United States. There's a serious question whether Willie Mitchell can win the murder case against Zegarra-and whether the D.A. will survive the devastating attack on the legal system.

District Attorney Willie Mitchell Banks is the last elected white politician in Yaloquena County, the heart of the Mississippi Delta. On the down slope of life in the town of Sunshine, Willie Mitchell is estranged from his wife and two sons, and disappointed in his career. The Delta has changed on his watch-white people still own the land and have the money, but African-Americans have almost total political power. Black Sheriff Lee Jones convinces his political ally, Willie Mitchell, to prosecute young black mother Takisha Berry for theft. Takisha's cause is taken up by an up-and-coming black preacher, who accuses the D.A. of racism and organizes a boycott against the local grocery store owned by a wealthy white farmer with close ties to the D.A. The preacher's protest march on the courthouse gets out of hand, and rioters torch the wealthy farmer's mansion in the middle of Sunshine. The arrest and prosecution of the riot leader cascades into explosive unintended consequences for the D.A., including allegations of a forbidden romance and the D.A.'s family's involvement in the town's tortured racial history. Willie Mitchell forges ahead with the prosecution in the face of attacks on his integrity and allegations of personal involvement in the case. Secret testimony is leaked relating to the unsolved death of a six-year-old black girl years earlier, and leads to a shocking and deadly conclusion in the racial cauldron that is Sunshine, Mississippi.

In Jerusalem, Ike tells Liam and his girl friend Mimi his document has been authenticated and it refutes Islam's historic claim to the Promised Land through Ishmael. Mimi is kidnapped while shopping in the Old City and Ike disappears into the Judean desert with the scroll. Abductors offer to trade Mimi for Ike's scroll, sending Liam on a harrowing search in Israel for Mimi, Ike, and the ancient document he needs to save the woman he loves, only to discover there are other sinister forces at work to destroy the Ishmael scroll and kill Ike, Mimi, and Liam.
