Who could have believed how much trouble an old chair could cause? From the moment his late grandfather's chair is delivered to Miles' home there seems to be magic at work. His long, friendless, school holidays are usually spent daydreaming and watching television. This year is different. Hidden under the leather covering of the chair he discovers clues to a world beyond his ordinary life in a North Yorkshire town in 1980. Miles is inexorably drawn into a dangerous world of witches, winged pigs and a mysterious tropical island. Fearing for his life, whilst being hunted by a ferocious enemy, Miles decides that he should leave a record of his exploits. Thank goodness he did!

Known simply as The Wall, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial lists the names of over 58,000 soldiers who died in Southeast Asia during one of this country's deadliest military conflicts. And behind each of these names is a story waiting to be told...a story of patriotism, service to country, and sacrifice to the principles of democracy. There's the story of the Edison 64 from Edison High School in Philadelphia, the dozen soldiers from Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Chicago, and the brotherhood of the Morenci 9 and the Midvale three. Also appearing among the wall's 70 black granite panels are the names of over 3,000 soldiers from Ohio, including eleven young men from one of Ohio's least populated counties, Monroe County. Strikingly, over half of those soldiers from the county that died were from the small village of Beallsville...bestowing upon the village of less than 400 the unwanted distinction of having the highest per-capita casualty rate of any U.S. community during the conflict. While other works may have been written about these eleven young men, those works only skimmed the surface of their lives. This work delves into the similarities of their young lives and the differences that brought about their untimely deaths. Along with their families, these young men gave so much, and their stories need...no, they demand...to be told. Everyone Has a Story, and this is theirs.

The universe is a poetic creation and we are the words. Truth is too much to contain alike honey taken in moderation. I have learned in my lifetime that youth is potent with the vital wellspring furthered into growth and maturity. We all are potential awaiting to find our purpose in love and in life. These early works are more abstract than my later ones, which have taken time and challenge to create. Day to day is structure, goals, noise and haste. Yet my true hope is of a universal rediscovery of our similarities which bring love and happiness between all of us. We are an earth so brimming in truth and beauty that such may overwhelm ourselves unless taken time and moderate increments. Art is truly long and the time we have here is precious. May you see the music of a sunset in wonder's vast splendor, so there is our nature but a revolve from dawn of life to its sunset. Not a soul is exempt from pain and tragedy in life, yet the melody behind our perceptions always is playing toward our greater wellspring of love, truth and beauty. May creativity bloom aside our now technological advancements. For they distance us and humanity need love. Be at peace and happy.

The light born when time initialed the universe is of truth, caught in a starry night of infinite wonder. What is our nature as human beings but something evolving through love and peace. As too often does daily life, the haste and noise, wartimes, strife, all inhibit this fascination of our existence. Let time contribute its eternal being into our lives and then we may see the light that illumines who we are. If we may know ourselves more and more there will become the awareness of similarities between us. It is my greatest wish for all humanity to grow by love and beauty, the wellspring of very life. May you live by the enrichment therein and know that you are loved and appreciated. Then rest at home among the nature of the earth and its spiritual essence. Know of truth little by little, as it is infinite in the evolvement of creation and is far too much for a sentence or even a volume of writing to contain. Live your life as nothing is more sacred and precious.

Theses verses here inscribed are gathered from my youth until my midlife of day to day composition for the entirety of eighteen years of hard work. Yet where do they derive their source but from a separate time and place than exists upon earth. As I attribute creativity to a natural medium by which the composure is but the vehicle, inspired by a muse, the artist is only valuable as the vessel given the words to create. As reflections herein are innate to my becoming conscious, perhaps even a truth and beauty inherent within our universal beings is by nature as spiritual transcendency belonging to eternity. Art is timeless and infinite and will always be evolving from its birth within time to the starry night we observe in wonderment of an eternal quality. Let the verse come to you and gradually you may reach these timeless affinities that we do indeed belong here and have a greater purpose and meaning than daily life may never portray. Walk the walk of peace and be happy.

In the art of it there is a reflection of life as it is found across the breadth of nature. The verses within this work are inspired to teach of this universal transcendency we call life. They will be of a purpose by which the reader may learn of him/herself the greater being by which we are a part. Virtue is but the entire whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Alike a loaf of bread made from scratch, each ingredient is bitter and displeasing, yet when carefully added together, given time to bake, then those ingredients comprise a nutritious completion. So a true poem may be of words that teach of an understanding which is greater than the words used to create the verse. Inspiration is but the essence of an artistic creation, and the creator is but the vehicle of such. There we will learn by a work of creativity the nature of life as is understood through nature, truth and beauty. For it is but these qualities which created the greater universe by which we all belong. Live by virtue and there will illumine the entire resolution of any conflict. Within poetry is presented a problem and throughout the verse to the very ending is a solution to this problem, giving the reader understanding and benefit. Learn by art and the never-ending process of life will become more and more complete, like a loaf of bread.

These verses are metaphysical by nature of their separation from daily time and the noise and haste of life. They are written as if the first line arrived and a necessity to write flowed upon the page. I intended to simply compose verses and this flood of creativity lasted for eighteen years. Daily I tasked away creating these works and others. If they are of this life then the medium for expression is by nature. For the earth and universe are of life ever-processing through creativity which began at the birth of time itself. We all are gifted with talents we know not and never imagined they exist. Until, somehow inspired to create, in artistic expression, a vision beyond the daily lives we lead. May your own creativity blossom alike the wildflowers upon a hillside in Spring. For as natural to earth is such that once found, the art is endless with timeless truth and beauty.
