Aber 1937 wurde vor allem von Wolfgang Paalen ein seltenes, in der Kunstgeschichte noch nie dagewesenes bildnerisches Verfahren entdeckt, die sogenannte Fumage, eine Technik, die auf der schwarzen Färbung beruht, die durch den Ruß des Rauches einer Flamme auf einer beliebigen Oberfläche entsteht. Ich habe mich in dieser Arbeit darauf konzentriert, durch meine eigene Arbeit und die Forschung, die ich in den letzten zwei Jahren durch reines Experimentieren durchgeführt habe.
