In the woods behind my house rest a collection of nine large flat rocks. Daily, I walk down to these priestess rocks for some sacred time alone to pray, meditate, consider, and be. Often, while in this space, I open my mouth and poetry comes out. I've come to see this experience as "theapoetics"-experiencing the Goddess through direct revelation, framed in language. As Stanley Hopper originally described in the 1970's, it is possible to "...replace theology, the rationalistic interpretation of belief, with theopoetics, finding God[dess] through poetry and fiction, which neither wither before modern science nor conflict with the complexity of what we know now to be the self." Theapoetics might also be described, "as a means of engaging language and perception in such a way that one enters into a radical relation with the divine, the other, and the creation in which all occurs."Earthprayer, Birthprayer, Lifeprayer, Womanprayer is a book earth-based poetry containing four thematic sections all rooted in connection to the land and to the cycles of life. This poetry collection is one of the results of a committed, devotional, year-long "woodspriestess" practice. I maintained this practice throughout 2013, eventually spending approximately 330 days that year in the same place in the woods listening to what they had to tell me about life, myself, and the Earth. This is a perfect collection for readings for women's circles and ceremonies!
Midlife can be a time of great change - inner and outer. How do we journey through this...and what can we learn in the process? Molly Remer is our personal guide to the unraveling and reweaving required in midlife. She invites us to take a walk with the goddess Persephone, whose story of descent into the Underworld has much to teach us. This book is a journey of soul-rebuilding, of putting the pieces of oneself back together.Walking with Persephone weaves together personal insights and reflections with experiences in practical priestessing, family life, and explorations of the natural world. It advocates opening our eyes to the wonder around us, encouraging the reader to both look within themselves for truths about living, but also to the earth, the air, the animals, and plants we share our lives with.Part memoir, part poetry, part soul guide, Molly's evocative voice is in the great American tradition of sacred nature writing.
