What is the true story of Moses and the Exodus from Egypt? The story has been variously told in such blockbuster movies as Cecil B. DeMille's The Ten Commandments and Ridley Scott's Exodus: Gods and Kings, not to mention the animated The Prince of Egypt. Despite various interpretations of novelists and filmmakers, ancient sources are surprisingly complete in telling what really happened. This book brings together two histories that tell his story. The account in the Old Testament (the Jewish Torah), was purportedly written by Moses himself. And Flavius Josephus, the celebrated Jewish historian, wrote Antiquities of the Jews in the first century. The Bible section is from the American Standard Version, written in modern English with readable paragraphing. Included are selected chapters from Exodus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, and Joshua. The book includes a helpful appendix drawn from the Jewish Encyclopedia. These accounts tell of the babe in the basket in the bulrushes, the oppression of the Pharaoh (who may have been Ramses II), the burning bush, the miracles and the plagues, the parting of the Red Sea, the Law of Moses, and the Tabernacle in the wilderness. We learn about the brass serpent, the golden calf, the manna, and the quail. We read about Moses' wife, Zipporah, and his successor, Joshua. And we see the miraculous details of the forty years the Israelites spent wandering in the deserts of Sinai, hoping to finally enter the promised land. This book is must reading for students of the Bible, of ancient history, and of the biblical prophets, as well as anyone who wants to know the true story of this great man, one of the epic leaders of all time.
Apostle Moses O. Oluwole was born in Jebba, Kwara State of Nigeria. At the age of four, his mother died, and he was transferred to Ile-Ife, to live with his grandmother. He was educated initially in Nigeria. Subsequently he attended College and Graduate School in Germany and U.K, where he received MSc in Chemistry; and PhD (Summa Cum Laude), in Industrial Chemistry, University of Stuttgart. Though raised in the Anglican Church he was not saved, but deep down, he loved the things of God. In the evening of December 31, 1956, while on Christmas vacation in Ile-Ife, he suddenly felt an overwhelming Divine presence all over him such that he was compelled to search for a nearby Church to pray. He walked about 3 miles to a small, isolated, empty and dark Catholic Chapel, near a cocoa plantation. Miraculously, he was able to feel his way through the pews to the front of the altar, where he prostrated and began to sob for over an hour. He began to sweat profusely and saw visions of Heaven. Overwhelmed by this experience he surrendered his life to Jesus. Though convinced he should study theology, he disobeyed and went to study science. By special grace, he attained academic excellence as Professor of Chemistry and Dean, a Fulbright Scholar, and alumnus of the Nigerian National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies -- but suffered a spiritual demotion. Thank God, for the opportunity of a second chance! My advice to anyone reading this book is "whatsoever He tells you to do, do it, and do it immediately." Delayed obedience or outright disobedience results always in spiritual setback. He is married to his beautiful wife, Dr. Doyin Oluwole, who loves the Lord. Together they are involved in Church planting. They are blessed with four children and three grandchildren.
A thought, a feeling, even this, which hangs in the air, is the most restless thing that cries out for a word to give it identity and a voice to set it free. Only then does it seek after your eyes to give it meaning. Here are those feelings and thoughts that finally found words but refused to rest until they were sentenced. In their sincerity they seek justification, not through your voice, because they have their own, but through your ears because they sing. They make you pause and listen to their dulcet sounds that soon enough you will sing along and they become your own. They seek after your heart and expose you to those feelings whose extremes you had forgotten or simply ignored and provoke your mind to vacillate between your truths and your realities to their own, so that you pause, to question, to debate, or simply because you are sad, as they elevate you to near philosophic melancholy. Not a single one of your emotions is spared as you oscillate between these extremes. You have tasted your tears when you read the Eulogies to "Nelly and Evelyn", you are intrigued when you find romance in a stone, but because of the lyrical sounds coming from " Pristine Christine", you are soothed to read again, so that your heart may sing and your mind is lulled to free its own Muses.
As today's workers are all too painfully aware, downsizing, takeovers, and technological changes have made job security a thing of the past. But there is a bright side to this new reality. Released from the pressure to conform to keep our jobs, we are free to take on the roles that really suit us and seek out personal fulfillment rather than exhaust ourselves striving for the proverbial brass ring. In this book, career expert and best-selling author Barbara Moses decodes the rules of the new workplace-what she calls Temp World-and shows how we can use them to take charge of our own careers. Moses identifies six types of contemporary workers-including "careerists" who thrive on the pressure of the rat race and "personal developers" who cherish learning and professional growth. She helps individuals decide which type they are, what they want out of their careers, and how they're most likely to succeed. She gives managers a guide to the new employment contract and ten strategies for managing the new workers. She even gives parents tips for career-proofing their children. In Temp World, where employment is ultimately transitory, key to survival is developing a portable set of skills that can be used in a succession of different assignments. In her trademark tell-it-like-it-is fashion, Moses shows readers how to develop those skills, seek new challenges, identify new opportunities, and nurture the self-confidence necessary to maintain enthusiasm during times of transition. Peppered with anecdotes from years Moses spent consulting for companies including Levi Strauss, Lucent Technologies, and PricewaterhouseCoopers, The Good News About Careers is full of frank advice and practical strategies for finding liberation, satisfaction, and success in an uncertain world.
