NANOCLAY BASED POLYMER COMPOSITES & THEIR CHARACTERIZATION TECHNIQUES. This book provides a detailed insight on survey of nanoclay and organomodified nanoclay as nanofillers in polymeric resins, organomodification of naturally available Na-IB nanoclay using cationic surfactants having long chain alkyl ammonium at two CEC. The modification process parameters such as time, speed, temperature and duration of ball milling were considered for the ion exchange process. Modification of Na-IB using HDTMA-Br, TPP-Br and TBA-Br considering the influence of modification parameters such as speed, duration of centrifuging for surfactant mixing, oven temperature for drying, speed and duration of ball milling for refining the modified nanoclay and Materials, Processes and Testing of nanoclay dispersed polymers. Characterizations techniques of nanoclay and organomodified nanoclay using XRD, SEM, FTIR, CHNS, EDAX, ZPA, TGA and characterizations techniques for polymer nanocomposites were also discussed.
Polymer nanocomposites has become one of the frontiers of materials sciences since the 1990s. It is found that the addition of nanoparticles, such as nanoclays or carbon nanofibers, into polymer matrix can improve the strength and modulus, enhance the thermal stability, and lower the water absorption rate [1-5]. For example, it was reported that the strength and electric conductivity of the nano-powder of copper were much higher than bulk copper [6]. Scientists attributed this change to the nano-effects of the nanoparticles. It was predicted that the nanostructured composites might show a great difference from the conventional composites. Therefore, nanocomposites have attracted great interests in the recent 20 years.
Study on the Influence of Modified nanoclay on Vinylester Based gel coats and FRP Nanocomposite: This book provides detailed insight into the Synthesis of organomodified Indian Bentonite nanoclay deals with Na-IB with cationic surfactants and its characterization. Na-IB was organomodified using HDTMABr, TBABr and TPPBr by varying the CEC to get HDTMABr-IB, TBABr-IB and TPPBr-IB respectively. Then, the modified clay thus obtained was characterized by using XRD, SEM, FTIR, EDAX, CHNS, Particle size analyzer and their Processing, characterization of FRP nanocomposites was discussed.
