The Star in the Window is a novel written by Olive Higgins Prouty. The story is set during World War II and revolves around the life of a young woman named Barbara Ainsworth. Barbara's husband, Tom, is fighting in the war, while she is left alone to raise their young daughter, Susan. The novel explores the challenges and sacrifices that women faced during the war, as they struggled to maintain their homes and families while their husbands were away. Barbara is a strong and independent woman who is determined to do her part for the war effort. She volunteers at the local hospital and becomes involved in various community activities. However, her life is turned upside down when she receives a telegram informing her that Tom has been killed in action. As Barbara tries to come to terms with her loss, she finds solace in her friendships with other women who have also lost loved ones in the war. Together, they form a support group and help each other through their grief. Throughout the novel, Prouty explores themes of love, loss, and resilience. She portrays the strength and courage of women during wartime, and the ways in which they were able to come together to support each other in times of need. Overall, The Star in the Window is a powerful and moving novel that offers a glimpse into the lives of women during World War II. It is a testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit, and a tribute to those who sacrificed so much for their country. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work.We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs.
