Pubblichiamo l'orazione funebre scritta dal cavaliere e procuratore veneto Paolo Paruta , storico, politico e diplomatico veneto , importante personalità culturale della Repubblica di Venezia fu pronunciata in lode e a eterna memoria della vittoriosa battaglia contro i Turchi , oggi ricordata come " battaglia di Lepanto", accaduta il fatale giorno 7 ottobre nell'anno 1571, nel cui giorno ridiamo alla luce questo antico scritto. Questo scritto , pubblicato nell' agosto dell' anno successivo, voleva rimuovere nei veneti quel sempiterno dolore che nasce nell'animo alla privazione delle persone amate ma nella volontà del Paruta andava letto non con il pianto come si suole fare, ma con molta gioia lodando la virtù dei defunti e osannando la loro felicissima sorte. Rimanga questo scritto a lode ed onore imperituro del fedeli e coraggiosi eroi della Repubblica Veneta che con il loro sacrificio vinsero e salvarono così l' intiera Europa dalla barbarie mussulmana per i secoli a venire. Il testo è stato riscoperto da Lugin Tieppo, membro dell' attuale Maggior Consiglio della Repubblica Veneta e che firma anche la nota di presentazione a questa riedizione, dopo secoli di oblio.
