This book contains 15 stories of characters in the bible that needed encouragement to help them on their path in life. People like: Moses, David, Paul, Mary and others. We sometimes think of these characters as "larger than life", but in reality they were common men and woman who God chose to use. The purpose of the book is to encourage the reader and help them understand that everybody needs encouragement to be successful.
This book is designed for men who want to improve their relationship with their wife (Bride) and children. It is based on the wisdom and advice I have learned over 20+ years of marriage. I want to share with other men the lessons that I have learned in hopes that they can have a deeper and more meaningful relationship with their Bride. You will find throughout the book that I refer to my wife as my Bride. This is a term of endearment and affection that serves as a reminder of the special relationship we have. Even though we have been married for 20+ years, I still refer to her as my Bride. I have heard it said many that there are three areas in our life that bring stress to a marriage: 1. Money 2. Children 3. Intimacy In this book you will find that we address these three areas as well as several others. The book is designed with seven key sections: Section One: THE LITTLE THINGS THAT MATTER This section has some simple ideas and concepts that can "jump start" your relationship. Section Two: LISTENING AND THE THINGS WE SAY This section has some simple concepts to read and understand, and are very powerful when applied, but will require great discipline to put into action. Section Three: HOW WE SPEND OUR TIME We all only have 24 hours in a day and this section helps the reader think about how to best allocate their time. Section Four: SPIRITUAL INTIMACY This section is all about drawing closer to your Bride from a spiritual perspective. Section Five: PHYSICAL INTIMACY This section is all about drawing closer to your Bride from a physical perspective. Section Six: THE THINGS YOU NEED TO DO AND REMEMBER This section is all about motivation and intention. Section Seven: HOW WE SPEND OUR MONEY This section will describe several of the key pitfalls in marriage and resources for improving how money is used. There is an additional section on FINAL THOUGHTS as well as a "bonus" chapter. I have broken the ideas into 52 short chapters that can provide the reader with one concept to work on each week. There are practical examples from my own marriage as well as lessons learned from other sources. Finally, this book does not attempt to be a comprehensive guide to marriage and family. It is more of an idea generator and thought starter. You will find that I point the reader to many different resources that have proven very helpful in my relationship with my Bride and children. I hope you enjoy the book and it proves a useful resource and guide.
This is a book about prayer; the who, what, when, where, why and how of prayer. It is also a book about answered prayers, and being an answer to a prayer. The book is written from the perspective of person who is neither a preacher, pastor or bible scholar. It is written to the person who is curious about prayer and wants to dig deeper into the basics of prayer and what the Bible has to say about prayer It also offers a personal glimpse into an ordinary person's prayer life and walk with God. This book is not intended to be a scholarly tome on prayer (there are plenty of fine examples of those). It is intended to offer a basic overview and guide to prayer.
This book is designed to give the reader the point of view of the 100 most important words from a Christian world view. These words were chosen by the author as the most significant words that have impacted his life and the life of his family.

Unleadership is a book that examines how not to lead others. The book takes a look at the all the bad things an Unleader does and the lessons we can learn to be better leaders ourselves. So often we only look to learn from the success and greatness of leaders, when in fact some of the best lessons we have ever learned are from having experienced poor leadership. We learn what not to do! Think of this book as a quasi "meta-analysis" of leadership from all of the books, blogs, articles, research papers, that I have read and 40+ years of work experience.
For the longest time I was Dad 1.0. After four children, I thought I had it figured out and it was my way or the highway. However, through a series of tumultuous life events I came to realize I did not have it figured out and I needed to change. These life events humbled me and showed me the need to move from Dad 1.0 to Dad 2.0.In other words this old dog needed to learn new tricks. I needed to iterate my approach to being a father. Especially since my children were moving quickly into adulthood. If I was not careful, thoughtful and humble - I ran the risk of alienating my children and creating rifts that would be very difficult to heal. I found that being teachable and having the ability to iterate is one of the key skills needed to succeed in life. This is true in business and it is true with my family and personal pursuits as well. The Dad 2.0 process has led me to make a number of different and sometimes difficult changes in my approach to being a father. I realize when you see some of the changes I have made your reaction will most likely be - "well duh! That's obvious". While it may be obvious, it is not enough to know what to do; you have to be intentional and actually make the changes. You have to be proactive and thoughtful. To be clear - I AM NOT PERFECT! I will never be perfect. I have flaws and foibles and will forever be striving to be a better father. It is in the striving that I hope to effect positive change in my life and the lives of my children. My goal is to finish well! I know this will be a life long journey. You will note that everything in this book is focused on what you need to do to change! Believe it or not, you can only really change one person in this life - yourself. Certainly you have influence, and can lead, guide and direct others, but you can only change yourself. Because change comes from within! If you want to change someone else, then pray for them and ask God to change them. You should spend your time, energy and effort on changing yourself. I have intentionally kept this book short and simple. We live in a stressed world where time is our most precious commodity and a long and lengthy book will most likely gather dust and never be read.I hope you find this book helpful in your own journey to be a better father. Just remember this journey is a marathon and not a sprint and the journey will only end when you take your last breath. I will strive each day to finish well and I hope you will do the same.
I have heard it said many times that people are either: -In the middle of a storm -Coming out of a storm -Heading into a storm A storm is a good analogy because there are so many different types of real storms that we encounter in life. Some are swift and come out of nowhere like a sudden thunderstorm on a summer day. The day starts out clear and beautiful, but before you know it, you are surrounded by wind and rain. Some storms you can see coming from a long way off (like a hurricane). It is slow and plodding, but relentless and menacing. It might deviate from its path, and you might be able to avoid its full wrath, but inevitably destruction follows wherever the hurricane touches. No matter the type of storm, being prepared and knowing what to do when the storm strikes can help you better navigate whatever comes your way. When you don't know what to do, do what you know to do: Pray Participate in Fellowship Praise God It is a simple formula, but it works.
The whole premise for this book came from a choice I made in my life to live more intentionally. I was tired of walking through this life without a plan and treating those around me indifferently. Living a life with intentionality necessarily means that I had to do a lot of the following: 1.Thinking 2.Meditating 3.Planning 4.Experimenting My heart's desire is to live a life whereby I am growing, spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally. My desire is to have deeper and more meaningful relationships with those near and dear to my heart. To pour into others and be a mentor and encourager to my friends, family and co-workers. Consider how you can be more intentional in the following areas of your life: Time - we all have the same amount of time each day (24 hours). How are you going to spend that time? Talents - what are the skills and abilities that you have? Are you using them appropriately? How can you be more intentional about using your talents in a positive and meaningful way? Treasure - this is a tough one for many people. Being intentional about how you spend, save, give and invest your money will take time and thoughtful effort on your part. You must know how each dollar is spent and how you are going to use your money. If you can consistently be intentional about these three areas of your life, I believe you will find your life much more fulfilling.
This is a book that I wrote out of the overflow of my heart for my children and my children's children. It was my desire to write down all of the wisdom that has been passed down through the ages. Some of the advice is profound, some of the advice is serious and some of the advice is just fun. There are over 500 pieces of advice that deal with the major facets of our life: Financial, Physical, Spiritual, Mental, Emotional and Relational.
