In November 2019, Paul B. Preciado was invited to speak in front of 3,500 psychoanalysts at the Ecole de la Cause Freudienne's annual conference in Paris. Standing up in front of the profession for whom he is a 'mentally ill person' suffering from 'gender dysphoria', Preciado draws inspiration in his lecture from Kafka's 'A Report to an Academy', in which a monkey tells an assembly of scientists that human subjectivity is a cage comparable to one made of metal bars. Demonstrating the discipline's complicity with the ideology of sex, gender and sexual difference dating back to the colonial era, Preciado was heckled and booed and unable to finish. The lecture, filmed on smartphones, ended up published online, where fragments were transcribed, translated and published with no regard for exactitude. Eighteen months on, Can the Monster Speak? is published in a definitive translation for the first time.

Lorenza Böttner. Requiem für die Norm ist die erste umfassende Publikation zum Werk der Künstlerin Lorenza Böttner (1959 - 1994), die auf der gleichnamigen, vom Württembergischen Kunstverein Stuttgart und La Virreina Centre de la Imatge in Barcelona koproduzierten Ausstellung (2018-2019) basiert. Böttner, die mit Füßen und Mund malte und Fotografie, Zeichnung, Tanz, Installation und Performance als künstlerische Mittel verwendete, feiert in ihrem Werk das Leben und widersetzt sich den Prozessen der Entsubjektivierung und Entsexualisierung, dem Wegsperren und Unsichtbarmachen von funktional andersartigen und Transgenderkörpern. Der Kurator der Ausstellung und Herausgeber des Kataloges, Paul B. Preciado, geht in zwei Beiträgen ausführlich dem Leben und Werk Lorenza Böttners sowie seiner persönlichen Begegnungen mit dieser nach. Darüber hinaus versammelt er verschiedene Stimmen zur ästhetischen und politischen Kraft ihrer Kunst. Lorenza Böttner wurde 1959 als Ernst Lorenz Böttner in Punta Arena, Chile geboren. Im Alter von acht Jahren erhielt si_er einen elektrischen Schlag, als si_er einen Strommasten hinaufkletterte, woraufhin beide Arme unter der Schulter amputiert werden mussten. Si_er studierte Malerei an der Kunsthochschule Kassel. 1988 zog Lorenza nach Barcelona. Si_er starb 1994 an HIV-bedingten Komplikationen.--Lorenza Böttner: Requiem for the Norm is the first comprehensive publication on the work of artist Lorenza Böttner (1959-1994).
