Philipp von Zesen (1619-1689) schlägt in seinem 1662 in Amsterdam erschienenen Coelum astronomico-poeticum eine Brücke zwischen zeitgenössischer Astronomie und philologischer Mythenforschung. Nach einer astronomiegeschichtlichen Einleitung und einer Darstellung astronomischer Grundbegriffe behandelt er in 64 Kapiteln die zu seiner Zeit bekannten Sternbilder, indem er die mit ihnen verbundenen antiken Mythen referiert und in rationalistischer Weise deutet (sein Vorbild ist G. Vossius). Am Ende jedes Kapitels werden die "lügenhaften Erfindungen der Heiden" durch "wahre Geschichten aus der Heiligen Schrift" ersetzt.Der Stoff gibt Zesen Gelegenheit, barocke Gelehrsamkeit auszubreiten - die Menge der Zitate und Verweise ist fast unübersehbar. Daneben pflegt er eigene Vorlieben, z.B. für die Etymologie, mit der er seine Theorie von der besonderen Ursprungsnähe der deutschen Sprache zu belegen sucht. Die Neuausgabe bietet den lateinischen Text in photomechanischer Reproduktion des Originals von 1662, versehen mit textkritischen Anmerkungen, sowie eine deutsche Übersetzung im Paralleldruck.

Jahrhunderts"e; startete 1967 mit dem Ziel, zur besseren Textkenntnis der vernachlassigten mittleren deutschen und neulateinischen Literatur beizutragen.
