Cette pièce est inspirée par le mythe grec d'OEdipe, devenu parricide et incestueux en tuant son père et en épousant sa mère. Corneille suit plus particulièrement la tragédie de Sénèque, dont il modifie cependant les enjeux politiques: OEdipe, qui gouverne Thèbes, doit constamment réaffirmer son autorité comme successeur du roi Laïos, notamment face à Dircé, fille de Laïus et de Jocaste, qui s'estime supérieure à celui qu'elle croit être un étranger, presque un usurpateur; elle refuse notamment d'épouser l'homme que lui destine OEdipe, car elle aime Thésée, seul digne de sa gloire. Or c'est précisément lorsqu'on découvre qu'OEdipe est le fils de Laïus, et donc roi légitime de la ville, que l'horreur de son crime apparaît (il a tué son père et épousé sa mère) et qu'il devient paradoxalement indigne de régner.

L'action a lieu en 453 dans le camp d'Attila (le texte parle plusieurs fois des tentes ), que Corneille situe en Norique. Malgré sa défaite des champs Catalauniques, Attila a réussi à conclure des traités avec l'empereur Valentinien III et avec Mérovée; des projets de mariage ont été évoqués et les deux princesses concernées sont venues au camp d'Attila. Au début de la pièce, se pose à Attila le problème de faire un choix définitif entre la soeur de Mérovée et la soeur de Valentinien. Il sollicite les conseils d'Ardaric et de Valamir, qui sont chacun épris d'une des deux princesses: Ardaric d'Ildione et Valamir d'Honorie, penchants d'ailleurs réciproques. Attila a une préférence personnelle pour Ildione, mais considère surtout les choses d'un point de vue politique. Au terme d'une intrigue où se mêlent l'amour, la politique et les menaces de mort, Attila, furieux contre Honorie, Valamir et Ardaric, décide d'épouser Ildione, mais il meurt (hors de la scène) avant même que la cérémonie commence, d'une hémorragie d'abord bénigne, puis catastrophique. Les autres protagonistes peuvent envisager un avenir un peu moins sombre.

Clitandre est la deuxième pièce de théâtre de Pierre Corneille, tragi-comédie écrite en 1630. La pièce est dédiée au duc de Longueville qui aida les débuts du jeune Corneille, petit-fils de son bailli de Longueville. Corneille la modifiera à de très nombreuses reprises, notamment en 1660, à l'occasion des différentes rééditions afin de l'adapter au genre de la tragédie, davantage en phase avec l'évolution de son siècle qui tend vers un raffinement des moeurs.

Titus avait exilé Bérénice dans le but de calmer le peuple romain qui voyait d'un mauvais oeil l'union de l'empereur avec une reine. Il doit maintenant épouser Domitie qui aime d'un amour réciproque Domitian, le frère de Titus. Bérénice revient à Rome en apprenant le mariage prochain de Titus et lui demande d'y renoncer. Domitian, dans un but vengeur, demande à Bérénice de l'épouser, cette dernière refuse et croit que Titus est l'unique responsable d'une telle demande. Elle court voir Titus qui est déjà anéanti et lui accorde toutes ses demandes: il n'épousera pas Domitie. Par contre, Tite la donnera en mariage, à la dernière scène de l'acte V, à son frère. Bérénice s'exilera de Rome à jamais et Titus règnera seul sur Rome.

Alidor aime Angélique et il est payé de retour, mais l'amour d'Angélique l'incommode néanmoins, car il ne peut se faire à l'idée du mariage qui signifierait la perte de sa liberté. Il voudrait que celle-ci se donne à son ami Cléandre. Il la convainc faussement, pour la décider, de son infidélité grâce à une fausse lettre. Lorsque Angélique s'éloigne de lui, comme prévu, mais pour se rapprocher de Doraste et non de Cléandre, comme il le veut, il la séduit à nouveau pour se faire donner un rendez-vous. Alidor a imaginé de faire enlever Angélique par Cléandre lorsqu'elle se rendra au rendez-vous. Une fois de plus, ce nouveau plan échouera également lorsque Cléandre enlèvera par erreur Phylis, l'amie d'Angélique sortie la chercher. Lorsqu'Angélique découvre qu'elle a été jouée une fois de plus par Alidor, qui avait fait signer par Cléandre la promesse de mariage qu'il lui avait remise pour la persuader de le suivre, elle décide de quitter le monde pour entrer au couvent.

La Suivante est une comédie en cinq actes et en vers. Elle fut écrite par Pierre Corneille en 1634. Théante, l'ami d'Amarante. une suivante, aspire à l'amour de la maîtresse de celle-ci, Daphnis. Aussi, à la fois pour se débarrasser de la donzelle et pour occuper un éventuel rival, tente-t-il de rapprocher Florame et Amarante. Mais, si Florame assiège fort galamment la suivante, il n'en perd pas pour autant de vue Daphnis qui, depuis qu'il fréquente Amarante, lui est devenue plus accessible. Les joutes amoureuses qui se succèdent entre Amarante et ses deux feints courtisans, Florame et Théante, se compliquent encore de la passion sénile qu'éprouve Géraste, père de Daphnis, pour la soeur de Florame. Cette passion devient l'objet d'un marchandage, qui n'intervient pas peu dans la victoire de Florame, encore que Daphnis n'ait jamais aimé que lui. Tout s'arrange le mieux du monde, sauf pour la malheureuse suivante, abandonnée de tous ses galants.
