Di Francesco non si può parlare se non "francescanamente", in maniera semplice, diretta e, se possibile, poetica.È nota la domanda che frate Masseo rivolse un giorno a bruciapelo a Francesco: "Perché tutti a te? Perché tutto il mondo corre dietro a te?". L'interrogativo si pone oggi con più ragione di allora, perché il mondo che va dietro al santo, non è più, come al tempo di frate Masseo, il piccolo mondo dell'Italia centrale, ma letteralmente tutto il mondo, compresi molti non credenti o credenti di altre religioni.

Über Franziskus kann man nur " auf franziskanische Weise" sprechen, das heißt auf einfache und direkte Art; und für die, die es können, auch aufpoetische Weise.Bekannt ist die Frage, die Bruder Masseo eines Tages unvermittelt an Franziskus richtete: Warum dir? Warum folgt dir die ganze Welt?. Diese Frage ist heute umso berechtigter, da die Welt, die sich für den Heiligen interessiert, nicht mehr nur die kleine Welt des Mittelalterlichen Italiens ist, sondern buchstäblich die ganze Welt, inklusive vieler Nichtgläubiger oder Gläubiger anderer Religionen.

For over forty years, the Capuchin Father Raniero Cantalamessa, in his role as Preacher to the Papal Household, has delivered a yearly homily in St. Peter's Basilica during the Good Friday liturgy. He has offered his meditations in the presence of the last three popes: Pope John Paul II from 1980 to 2005, Pope Benedict XVI from 2006 to 2012, and Pope Francis from 2013 to 2022. As in St. John's Gospel and the early Church, Good Friday marks the hour of the death of Christ and at the same time of his exaltation and his victory over sin and suffering--a day of mourning but even more of rejoicing. About the author: Fr. Ranierio Cantalamessa was born in Italy in 1934 and was ordained a Capuchin Franciscan priest in 1958. He taught at the Catholic University of Milan until 1979. In 1980 he was appointed as preacher to the papal household by Pope John Paul II. He still serves in that capacity, preaching a weekly sermon during both Lent and Advent in the presence of Pope Benedict XVI. He is a frequent and popular speaker at international conferences and ecumenical conferences and rallies.
