The Rhyme Mine: A Life in Verse is a volume of poems birthed in teenaged romance, seasoned in marriage, and gathered along the roads of life and pathways of faith. What starts in an idyllic springtime of young love evolves into heightened awareness as each season passes. Passions and dreams. Plans and schemes. Wonders and blunders. Grief and relief. Pouting and doubting. Raging and aging. The laughs and the gaffes. Attitude and gratitude. These nuggets collected during half a century of living now await discovery by the intrepid reader.
There is an emotional staircase that descends into a state of hysteria and despair, where feelings take precedence over facts, self-control is lost, and souls are broken. We find ourselves in a world that is pummeling our senses and fueling our emotions. Political polarization. Divisive stereotypes. Media madness. Broken relationships. Moral confusion. Chronic depression. How can we maintain balance and control in such an environment? And how can we be healed when these forces are wounding our souls? Richard Davis examines 15 of the emotions that rob us of peace and threaten our health. But he doesn't stop there. After analyzing these emotional traps, he offers practical advice on how to avoid and escape them.
Some of the key mathematical results are stated without proof in order to make the underlying theory acccessible to a wider audience. The book assumes a knowledge only of basic calculus, matrix algebra, and elementary statistics. The emphasis is on methods and the analysis of data sets. The logic and tools of model-building for stationary and non-stationary time series are developed in detail and numerous exercises, many of which make use of the included computer package, provide the reader with ample opportunity to develop skills in this area. The core of the book covers stationary processes, ARMA and ARIMA processes, multivariate time series and state-space models, with an optional chapter on spectral analysis. Additional topics include harmonic regression, the Burg and Hannan-Rissanen algorithms, unit roots, regression with ARMA errors, structural models, the EM algorithm, generalized state-space models with applications to time series of count data, exponential smoothing, the Holt-Winters and ARAR forecasting algorithms, transfer function models and intervention analysis. Brief introducitons are also given to cointegration and to non-linear, continuous-time and long-memory models. The time series package included in the back of the book is a slightly modified version of the package ITSM, published separately as ITSM for Windows, by Springer-Verlag, 1994. It does not handle such large data sets as ITSM for Windows, but like the latter, runs on IBM-PC compatible computers under either DOS or Windows (version 3.1 or later). The programs are all menu-driven so that the reader can immediately apply the techniques in the book to time series data, with a minimal investment of time in the computational and algorithmic aspects of the analysis.
* Exciting and unique textbook that provides an exhaustive treatment of the world's different coasts and details the highly varied processes that have shaped them. * The authors draw on a wealth of experience that broadens the content of chapters and provides for numerous and varied examples.
This book is aimed at the reader who wishes to gain a working knowledge of time series and forecasting methods as applied to economics, engineering and the natural and social sciences.
It's the Subtleties that Matter! What is the real difference between competent leader and extraordinary executive? Is it pedigree, experience, intelligence? The answer is yes. and much more. Exceptional leadership hinges on a complex interaction between individual psychology and unique business needs.
An examination of the area of ethnicity and black identity in America. This work aims to reveal the importance of the myth of black ethnicity, and explores its creation and evolution. The author seeks to de-bunk this myth and highlight the individual differences that blacks have always had.
Here is a systematic account of linear time series models and their application to the modeling and prediction of data collected sequentially in time. It details techniques for handling data and offers a thorough understanding of their mathematical basis.
