Powerful, prophetic and at times disturbing, A Town Called Sometimes by poet and short fiction writer Robert Fischer shares a Western tale filled with the forlorn heartache of two young men with troubled pasts. Written upon the wide-open, expansive and often stark landscape of the New Mexico frontier, two men with blood on their hands will fail to come to grips with the memories of their cruel fathers. One of Mexican decent and the other half Comanche Indian, together they will forge a dangerous friendship in which all of Texas will pay for their fathers' transgressions. The fact is that violence begets violence, and when the two boys escape from a jail in South Texas their present becomes as blood-spattered as their past. Their bloody rampage through Texas seems as inevitable as it seems impossible to stop until they cross the path of a strong-armed and vigilant retired deputy sheriff in a town called Sometimes. With a searing prose, this author shares a story of deliverance and one that aptly portrays the ties that bind effect us all.
Vignettes is a survey of Robert Fischer's best street work from around the world between the years of 2011 to 2015. It covers anonymous portraiture and subtle narratives from locations as diverse as Tibet, St. Petersburg, New York City, Tehran, and Melbourne. Although there are a few humorous images, some color but mainly black and white, the work leans to the dark stories consistent around the world. The buildings and faces may change, but the strengths and frailties of being human are constant.

The project "Mark: Subject, Object, Collaborator, Not Just Another Green Pepper" began 8 years ago when I was living in Palm Springs. I met Mark at a gay art salon. The first portrait of Mark in the book is the first portrait I shot of him, and still one of the finest images of HIM. I remember that photo shoot because it was the time that I discovered through him that he suffered from HIV related dementia and bipolar disorder. Many of the images involve capturing those disorders. But like any subject who gets photographed repeatedly over an 8 year period, it was imperative for there to be more to him then just an object, hence the reference to Edward Weston's green pepper photographs. Mark was a willing subject and open and available to anything and any whim at any time for my lens. We collaborated on many levels: psychic, physical, and creative.

Java Closures and Lambda introduces you to significant new changes to the Java language coming out of what is termed Project Lambda. These new changes make their debut in Java 8, and their highlight is the long-awaited support for lambda expressions in the Java language. You'll learn to write lambda expressions and use them to create functional interfaces and default methods for evolving APIs, among many other uses. The changes in Java 8 are significant. Syntax and usage of the language are changed considerably with the introduction of closures and lambda expressions. This book takes you through these important changes from introduction to mastery. Through a set of clear examples, you'll learn to refactor existing code to take advantage of the new language features. You'll learn what those features can do for you, and when they are best applied. You'll learn to design and write new code having these important new features in mind from the verybeginning.Clearly explains the fantastic benefits resulting from Project Lambda Explains the syntax and IDE support for the new features Shows how to streamline your code by bringing some of the benefits of functional programming to the Java language Illustrates parallelism in closures through Stream and Spliterator objects Explains API evolution by adding methods to existing interfaces without breaking existing interface implementations, a technique addressing potential multiple inheritance issues
