When the author was a small boy living in Missouri with his family, their yard bordered a large cornfield. At night the author would see smoke rising from the middle of the corn field and imagined the Easter Bunny was coloring eggs and melting chocolate for chocolate Easter Bunnies and getting things ready for Easter. Each Easter the author would tell his children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews a story about seeing the Easter Bunny preparing for Easter in that cornfield. It became a popular story, and everyone asked him to tell and retell that story every year.
