"On December 14, 2012, Robbie Parker's daughter Emilie was killed at Sandy Hook Elementary, a tragedy that changed Robbie's life and our country forever. By the next day, Alex Jones was on air claiming the shooting was a hoax. So beigns Parker's "David and Goliath" story, a tale of hope and resilience amid hatred and division. While Robbie and his familie spent the next decade attempting to grieve, Jones's fans harassed them, calling them crisis actors. The hatred pushed Robbie inward, disconnecting him from the world and his family. Four years after Sandy Hook, an Infowars listener accosted Robbie three thousand miles away from Newton, Connecticut, repeating the same lies Alex Jones had spread for years. Soon after, seventeen students were murdered at Florida's Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School. Robbie and his wife spoke with one of the victims' parents and learmed they were also being bombarded with hateful messages. "Phrygia in the second and third centuries CE offers more vivid evidence for what has been termed 'lived ancient religion' than any other region of the ancient world. The evidence from Phrygia is neither literary nor, in the main, issued by cities or their powerful inhabitants. It comes from farmers and herders: they have left behind numerous stone memorials of themselves and dedications to their gods, praying for the welfare of their families, their crops, and their cattle. A rare window is opened into the world of what Sir Ronald Syme called 'the voiceless earth-coloured rustics' who are 'conveniently forgotten'. The period in which Phrygian paganism flourished so visibly to our eyes was also the period in which Christianity, introduced by the apostle Paul, took root, as early and as successfully as in any part of the Roman world. In Religion in Roman Phrygia: From Polytheism to Christianity, Robert Parker presents this rich body of evidence and uses it to explore one of history's great stories and enigmas: how and why the new religion overtook its predecessor, the Christian God now meeting the needs of Phrygians hitherto satisfied by Zeus and the other gods"--
A Christmas Cracker serves as a Godsend to the overstretched parson, headmaster or preacher during one of the most exciting and busy times of the Christian calendar. A collection of ready-made and readily accessible Christmas services, tried and tested over the course of Reverend Parker's 25 years as a rector, yet still very much applicable to the modern minister. This is in part a 'how to' guide yes, but it's more than that. It's about active learning, imprinting with God, making Christianity accessible and memorable. At times you could be forgiven for thinking you're in a wizard's magic class - cue the mixing of magnesium, sulphur and potassium and other chemical ingredients to produce the essence of the spirit of God. Then there are the classic games such as pass the parcel and church treasure hunts that are playfully woven into services to create an infectious enthusiasm for Christmas that goes beyond the presents and the physical manifestations of Christmas today. Arranged over three parts, Reverend Parker first sets out a series of stand-alone services suitable for a school assembly or sermon slot with simple, symbolic aids and props to bring the act of worship to life. In part II there follows a selection of full-length major services that can be reproduced with or without adaptation and with practical pointers such as how to recruit willing helpers to enable these plans to come together.A final section comprises ideas to embellish the themes covered in the earlier chapters. From human camels and Christmas action songs to carols sung to the tune of "Match of the Day", you'll find plenty of inspiration to engage young and old alike.
This book presents a theory that the past spring feasts of the Lord could predict the future end times prophecy events using the fall feasts of the Lord. This basic prophetic understanding was proposed in the early 1980s by Robert van Kampen The Sign of Christ's Coming and the End of the Age. Since then, other author scholars have come to the same understanding: Marvin Rosenthal The Feasts of the LORD, Michael Norten Unlocking the Secrets of the Feasts, Bruce R. Booker The Feasts of the LORD, and Sam Nadler Messiah in The Feasts of Israel. Its logical conclusion is a series of dates reflecting the fall feasts of the Lord. These dates are based on scripturally significant events in Israel: 14 May 1948 and June 1967. The following events will be proposed among many others. Based on Yom Kippur, it will present a series of the start of the seventieth week of Daniel. They range from 2020 to 2029 and on 2063. Based on the crucifixion of Jesus in likely 30 AD or 33 AD and 1948 the following dates seem to stand out: 13 November 2023 or 9 November 2026. There are other possible dates depending upon which filters the reader does or does not use. Jesus second advent begins three and a half years later on the Mount of Olives with the great tribulation. The same day Gog attacks the Lord responds with, if you will, a counter attack. When to hide from the fury of the great tribulation therefore mitigate persecution for our faith. When each two-day rapture window dates are each year. The two witnesses will likely arrive on a Passover. The ten days of Awe occur during the sixth and seventh blown trumpets.
This new theory has the rapture in Rev. 8:5 as the unique phrase of "peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake". Lightning is synonymous with Elijah's chariots of fire.
They are not just less oily, but also easy and fast to prepare as well. I prefer to marinate the meat overnight in the freezer and take it out in the morning to a cool compartment before going to work. Then to the microwave oven as soon as i arrive home. Bacon, chicken wings and chicken thighs are my favorite among the grilled dishes. Whenever i have more free time in the weekend, i prepare more time-consuming dishes like grilled ribs or quails. Try the asian style by marinating using five spices, not only the dish will be attractive, but it''s the quickest and delicious way. For european style dishes, the sauce will be a bit different and complicated. You can buy this sauce in the market, but i choose to make it myself because it will be tastier and eye-catching. I feel that the sauce out there in the market would not be suited to our taste.
Robert Parker ranges widely through literary history and theory to give the poems of Elizabeth Bishop (1911-79) the serious critical attention they deserve. The Unbeliever shows that Bishop's poems, already famous for their clear and quiet tone, also struggle with confusion and wonder about things she can never make quiet or clear.
From even before the time of Alexander the Great, the Greek gods spread throughout the Mediterranean, carried by settlers and largely adopted by the indigenous populations. By the third century b.c., gods bearing Greek names were worshipped everywhere from Spain to Afghanistan, with the resulting religious systems a variable blend of Greek and indigenous elements.Greek Gods Abroadexamines the interaction between Greek religion and the cultures of the eastern Mediterranean with which it came into contact. Robert Parker shows how Greek conventions for naming gods were extended and adapted and provides bold new insights into religious and psychological values across the Mediterranean. The result is a rich portrait of ancient polytheism as it was practiced over 600 years of history.
This book provides a fresh and original approach to a controversial episode in British history, Chamberlain's policy of 'appeasement' towards Hitler's Germany.
