Henry Smith, a Senior Immigration Officer has been murdered. His funeral is attended by a mysterious woman of extraordinary beauty who tosses an object into the open grave. Also there is Smith's assistant, Susan Harvey who stands to inherit his art collection worth millions, and Colin Jackson who is dating Smith's daughter and is also a suspect in an international drug investigation. Henry Smith had been under investigation by Internal Affairs for granting permanent residency to asylum seekers even though they didn't meet the criteria and one of these had been his close friend Ivan Renowicz. Ivan had committed suicide on the same day as Henry's death. Detective Inspector Matthew Hudson heads the investigation but it is his colleague, Detective Senior Constable Jill Morellix, the rough diamond from Sydney's Western Suburbs whose ingenuity uncovers the entire corrupt process and a series of other crimes, including murder. Dark secrets are revealed, ugly motives are uncovered and the twists and turns will keep the reader guessing 'who dunnit?' to the bitter end.
