At the time, Sydney was in a relationship when she first met Rod, but their attraction was always there, and now they have a second chance. But what type of relationship can two people who don't believe in relationships have? How long will it take before one wants more than the other is willing to give.
It may be a new day, but mystery and murder are still on the agenda. In the aftermath of Wanda's Reign, Mike Black and Bobby Ray have resumed command of the organization they started and they were able to crush their enemies. There are still pockets of resistance, but Black is confident that Rain Robinson will do what she does best and bring order to chaos. Now that the war is over, Shy hoped that her life with Black would return to what it once was. But that is not the case. With Black being so consumed with running the business, Shy is left with idle time on her hands. And then there is still the matter of Jada West. But when a family friend of Black's is murdered and more people turn up dead, Shy is at his side to unravel the mystery.
Victor Matthews was too young to know what his grandfather meant when he said that sometimes loving a woman is hurt and disappointment, but it stuck with him. Maybe because for Victor it turned out to be true. That's when he saw her. Poise, elegance, and grace; she was absolutely phenomenal. And when their eyes connected, he felt something powerful between them. And when their eyes met, and the intensity of the look they shared, Victor knew that she felt it too. Only problem: she was with her man.Natasha Edwards was moved when she saw Victor. The way he looked at her made her think about things that a woman in a committed relationship shouldn't be thinking about. She was involved with Lloyd, a very successful man who enjoyed the fact she was beautiful, smart, more than willing to satisfy his every sexual desire, and able to talk to his peers when they went out. He was more concerned with Natasha looking the part, and fit the role of his woman, but Lloyd couldn't appreciate her for who she really was. Convinced that in time her relationship with Lloyd will get better, Natasha resolved herself to the fact that she was taken, so thoughts of Victor should be not on her mind. But fate steps in and they meet again and despite the heavy vibe between them, she denies it and tries her best to rid herself of thoughts of Victor. Unable to accept that he can't have her, Victor retreats to the only position available to him. "I would at least like to be your friend."For now.
Even though her title was underboss, Rain Robinson is The Boss of The Family now.The Reign of Rain Robinson concludes in Dead On It.The war is over, Barnes and Mobley are dead, and Hawkins is on the run. All that remains are the remnants of their once formidable crews. Rain is on a mission to shut them all down. 'Kill everybody and burn the bitch to the ground' so she can turn her attention to her real enemy, Rona King. She had orchestrated the entire war from behind the scenes, pulling the strings of her greedy, stupid but well-financed pawns that she sent out to fight her proxy war against The Family. With both Rain and the police closing in on her, Rona still has one more card to play that has the potential to bring an end to the reign of Rain Robinson.
With all of their enemies defeated and Rain Robinson firmly in control of his Family, Black and Shy have put that life of constant war and death behind them. They have moved back to the home that they built in The Bahamas; the home that they built to spend the rest of their lives in, so many years ago. Shy has promised to hang up her guns and live the quiet life with the man she loves; raising their children and focusing on running her legitimate import/export business. So when she is presented with the opportunity to become the U.S. importer for a company that makes hand-made women's apparel, Shy jumped at the opportunity. A meeting was quickly arranged in Palermo, Sicily to meet the owner and negotiate a deal. That's when the trouble begins... ...and that is when Shy is glad that she brought her gun.
Following the death of Freeze, Mike Black and Bobby Ray are back in control of their organization. It seems like old times. But even though times are good, Black has begun to think that maybe it's time to get out of the game before he loses somebody else close to him. The police say that the death of Tatiana Phillips was just part of a robbery gone wrong, probably drug related. End of story. Whether or not that's true, the Phillips family still wants to know who killed her. As a favor to the family, Nick Simmons agrees to look into the senseless murder. His investigation leads him to Rain Robinson, a ride or die chick who's involved in everything... and it's all bad.
The action begins when Nick Simmons pays a long overdue visit to see Mike Black in The Bahamas; however, before Nick has the chance to hook-up and reminisce with his old friend, the drama begins. Now Black has to find his wife and deal with the kidnappers, while fighting a war with one of his rivals, and solve a murder with political implications, only to find that there is one man behind it all.
After settling some unfinished business in the Baja Peninsula, Mike Black returns home only to find that his wife, Shy has been brutally beaten and shot to death. The police arrive shortly after he does. They take Black into custody and charge him with murder. Now Nick Simmons, the family lawyer, Wanda Moore, and an unlikely ally, Detective Kirkland, must all work together to find out who framed Mike Black for murder.
Now that other less important matters (namely Jada West) have been dealt with to her satisfaction, Black and Shy have moved on, stronger than ever. Shy has finally gone back to get her master of business administration degree and has committed to opening her own import/export business. With Wanda's war behind them, Black has promised to spend more time at home with his family; time that Shy promises will be time well spent. But there is one more matter that Shy will have to deal with-The attention being paid to her by Dr. Spencer Mensforth. As for Black, he knows that he still has The Grenadine Boys to deal with and the threat they pose to his Caribbean operation. In It's Only Love, fate brought Victor and Natasha together and nothing seemed to be able to keep them apart. Not Natasha's stagnant relationship with Lloyd, nor Victor's fear of the hurt and disappointment of any loving relationship with a woman. So they began as friends and that allowed them to get to know one another and what they found was a great love between them. It seems that fear of commitment runs in the Matthews' family, because Victor's sister Rhonda has those same relationship issues. After being cheated on, disrespected and humiliated by men, she has chosen to give up on relationships and focus on family, career and having great sex; when she can find it. But after meeting Randall Washington, Rhonda discovered that sometimes a man really does want more than what you have to offer him between the sheets. Why would Daniel Beason kill Quentin, and why would Beason have murdered his business partner, Elias Colton? But before that can happen, Sapphire gets a call informing her that men are holding her mother hostage. They demand the return of a thumb drive that Rain found on her last flight. In this prelude to Cold Blooded, Mike Black and his wife, Shy are trying, again, to put that life behind them, raise their children, and spend the rest of their lives loving one another in peace. That peace is shattered when Elias Colton, a prominent member of the Black Business Association and close associate of New York City gangster Mike Black, is murdered. The detectives assigned to the case believe that they have a suspect, and the motive is sex, money, or both. However, when Black and Shy are spotted at the funeral, the detectives know that it’s necessary to eliminate Black and The Family, the criminal organization that he controls, as prime suspects. They soon discover that the murder has international implications. With the war behind them, everybody in The Family has gone back to making money. Underboss Rain Robinson is preoccupied with her situation with Carter Garrison, and she needs some space to figure out what to do. When her cousin, Sapphire Langston, goes missing, Rain uses the disappearance as an excuse to distance herself from Carter. At Sapphire’s apartment, someone has ransacked the place and is still there waiting when Rain arrives. Rain is able to fight off her ambusher after a wild shootout, but now, as the search for Sapphire and the investigation of Elias Colton’s murder continues, it becomes obvious that the two are connected.
