This book, Reflections Worth Remembering, is a collection of my articles that have been published in several local, statewide and national publications over the last 25 years. I selected a variety of articles addressing issues facing our nation, help for marriages and family, recognition of those who are important to us, our personal heath and application of Biblical principles. The book can be great resource for insight into issues facing our nation, sermon or teaching illustrations, or just relaxing reading about everyday life. The articles represent many hours of thought, prayer and hard work.

One group of individuals have been overlooked: the caregivers. They are not overlooked intentionally. By the nature of their role, they are content to stay in the shadow of their loved ones, focused on the needs of the seriously ill or dying. They move quietly through the death process, providing and comforting as they go. Content to lay aside their own feelings, hurts, wants, and needs, they make the waning days as pleasant as possible. These individuals often feel isolated and alone, but they remain strong for the sake of those around them. In spite of their courage, caregivers desperately need encouragement, comfort, appreciation, love, and a helping hand during this difficult time. This brief book will address those things. Penned by a caregiver who stood faithfully by his wife's side for three years, watching cancer slowly ravage her body and ultimately take her life; the author has firsthand knowledge of a caregiver's experience. He shares practical suggestions to help other caregivers survive emotion- ally. This book will: -Give practical ways to recognize and cope with different stages of illness

 More than anything else, the book reminds caregivers that no matter how dark the way may seem, God is still there. No matter how dim the future may look, he is there. No matter what one must endure, he is there. He is there no matter how emotionally wounded one might feel. He gives hope. He offers help. Caregivers can be happy again.

There is hope for our marriages and our children. The Bible, the greatest book of wisdom and guidance ever written, defines relationships, roles, responsibilities, and rewards for marriages and raising children. The purpose of this book is to provide practical common sense principles that will strengthen marriages, build up children and create the environment in homes where parents and children build enduring lifelong relationships by understanding who God is and how He can help them. The practical suggestions offered in this book are based on Biblical principles, 40 years of successful marital experience, counseling countless married couples, working closely as a college dean with hundreds of college students, pastoring hundreds of families, raising my two children and now the proud pawpaw of five wonderful grandchildren. Good marriages do not happen by accident; they require hard work. Raising children to honor and respect their parents and give proper place to God and His Word requires constant and consistent efforts by parents. There are no perfect marriages, perfect parents, or perfect children. But there are powerful common sense principles built upon the foundation of the Word of God that can help imperfect people perfect the art of becoming good parents, and raising good children. Read this book with an open mind understanding that it does not have all the answers. Every situation is different because people and families are different. Ask God to help you glean from the book things that will instruct, encourage, and help you work to make your house a home.

Merriam Webster's Dictionary defines grief as deep and poignant distress caused by bereavement. The Cambridge Dictionary describes it as very great sadness and the English Oxford Dictionary defines it as intense sorrow, especially caused by someone's death. Grief brings deep sorrow and mental distress caused by loss, remorse or affliction. Grief is an emotion that is a normal part of life. The word grief means pain or sorrow over a loss that hurts deeply. It is a life changing emotion and it can be a life shattering emotion. Grief may generate other emotions like fear, anger, resentment, worry and guilt. Grief may manifest itself in a variety of ways such as loss of sleep, loss of appetite and loss of self-control. However one might define it, grief is one of the most painful emotions and periods of grief are some of the most difficult times we face in life. How we handle grief will impact our immediate and long term happiness. Decisions made during periods of grief can unknowingly create barriers to future hope and happiness. It is possible to not only survive grief but also to thrive on the other side of grief. The following pages record one man's journey through the grieving process and also encouragement and advice for others who may be traveling down a similar road. This book suggests helpful ways to not only deal with grief, but also to thrive on the other side of it. The book can be a valuable resource for those who are trying to navigate the stormy waters of Grief. By a copy, read it, then pass it on to others who might benefit from it.
