Man hat oft die Meinung gehört, unsere Stadt Eberswalde sei so arm an Baudenkmälern wie kaum eine zweite märkische Stadt. Diese Ansicht zu entkräften, ist das vorliegende Büchlein ¿ zugleich ein weiterer Band der ¿Mitteilungen des Vereins für Heimatkunde¿ ¿ bestimmt. Es soll in allgemeinen Zügen und begrenzter Auswahl über Bauten des ¿alten Eberswalde¿ orientieren und den Beweis erbringen, dass unsere Stadt doch noch so mancherlei aufzuweisen hat, was unserer Heimat zur Zierde gereicht. Die im letzten Jahrzehnt zu neuem Dasein erwachte ¿Heimatkunde¿ muss im engsten Kreise einsetzen, soll sie fruchttragend nach innen und außen, für das gegenwärtige und unser heranwachsendes Geschlecht werden. Dass diese kleine Arbeit zu besserem und nachhaltigerem Verständnis unserer städtischen Baudenkmäler und der baulichen Überlieferung anregen und beitragen möge, ist der aufrichtige Wunsch des Verfassers.

"Es ist durchaus natürlich, daß jene Krankheitssymptome, die unserer sinnlichen Wahrnehmung und so einer objektiven Kontrolle zugänglich sind, als diagnostische Bausteine sich ganz besonders eignen; und es ist das Bestreben moderner medizinischer Forschung auf allen Gebieten (Serumpathologie, Radiologie etc.), die Reihe derartiger objektiver Krankheitsphänomene zu vermehren und derart die Lösung diagnostischer Probleme zu fördern.Insofern mag es vielleicht fast rückschrittlich erscheinen, ein nur der Eigenbeobachtung des Kranken zugängliches, rein subjektives Phänomen, das Phänomen der Schmerzempfindung, so sehr in den Vordergrund zu rücken, wie es in den nachfolgenden Darlegungen geschehen wird.Möge sich das Buch in dem Sinne bewähren, in dem es verfaßt wurde, als eine Anleitung zur raschen und richtigen Deutung und erfolgreichen Bekämpfung von Schmerzzuständen bei inneren Krankheiten!"Dieses Buch über die Schmerzphänomene bei inneren Krankheiten, ihre Pathogenese und Differentialdiagnose, ist ein unveränderter Nachdruck der Originalausgabe von 1906.
