On connaît la jeune épouse de Casimir Dudevant, au génie encore endormi et vague; on connaît l'amoureuse platonique d'Aurélien de Sèze, déjà attentive à l'appel de la vocation; on a étudié maintes fois la révoltée romantique, Lélia, et, hier encore, on confessait définitivement, - selon toute apparence, - la douloureuse amante de Musset; on n'a jamais ignoré la mère de Maurice; l'amie nous est révélée par la correspondance de Flaubert et par vingt autres; la grand'mère enfin, et la bonne dame de Nohant, sont entrées de plain-pied dans l'histoire, j'allais presque dire dans la légende.
