Remote sensing refers to a process involving the identification and observation of the topographies of a region by measuring its reflected and emitted radiation from a distance. It involves gathering information about objects or regions from distant objects such as aircrafts, satellites and drones. It is commonly used for gathering information about the Earth's surface from space. Weather forecasting, natural disaster research, land-use mapping, resource exploration, and environmental research are some of the prominent applications of remote sensing. One of the significant applications of remote sensing is in hydrology, where it can be used for measuring several hydrological variables over a region repeatedly. The hydrological variables measured by remote sensing include surface temperature, snow water equivalent, surface soil moisture, snow covered area and land cover. This book is a valuable compilation of topics, ranging from the basic to the most complex studies on the role of remote sensing in hydrology. Scientists and students actively engaged in this field will find it full of crucial and unexplored concepts.

Literature and the Telephone explores the ways that the telephone taps into the operations of reading and writing, opening up our understanding of how, where and why literary communication takes place. Addressing the telephone's complex, multiple and mutating functions, and drawing on recent work by writers and thinkers including Sara Ahmed, Stacy Alaimo, Judith Butler, Nicholas Royle and Eyal Weizman, this open access book considers the linguistic, technical and conceptual disruptions of the literary telephone as well as the poetic and political possibilities of the exchange. Focusing on the telephonic effects of post-war writing by authors such as Mourid Barghouti, Caroline Bergvall, Tom Raworth, Muriel Spark, Ali Smith and Rita Wong, Sarah Jackson proposes that the uncanny logic of the telephone, and its capacity for ordering and disordering the text, speaks to some of the most urgent concerns of our era. Examining topics ranging from surveillance and migration to warfare and electronic waste, Jackson argues that the literary telephone offers new ways of conceiving ethical and creative technological futures, as well as different modes of reading, writing and listening across cultures. The ebook editions of this book are available open access under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence on bloomsburycollections.com. "You want me to do what now: 101 of the worst job titles around" is a humorous look at job searching and advertising. In any given month, in Australia alone, there is an average of 165,00 jobs advertised, and approximately 750,000 people recorded as being out of work - and this doesn't include job seekers who are looking for a change of employment. There are a great many people looking at a wide range of position titles. It's a big business. The book, set in a Listicle format, looks at ridiculous, pompous and downright misleading job titles. Job seekers, employers, advertisers and the general public, may find this an interesting read, as it is both true and bizarre.

A new critical perspective on the relationship between text and tact in 20th- and 21st-century literature and theoryWhile the field of haptic aesthetics has received significant critical interest in recent years, the intimate connection between touching and writing remains neglected. Contributing to current debates in deconstruction and psychoanalysis, Tactile Poetics: Touch and Contemporary Writing offers a new critical perspective on the relationship between text and tact. Through close readings of authors such as John Berger, Elizabeth Bowen, Anne Carson, Siri Hustvedt, and Michael Ondaatje, the volume proposes a theory of 'tactile poetics' in order to examine the co-implication of touch and writing in a range of genres including the novel, poetry, short fiction, autobiography and film. Drawing on insights from Didier Anzieu, Hlne Cixous, Jacques Derrida, Sigmund Freud and Jean-Luc Nancy, Tactile Poetics examines the 'skin-effects' of language and the 'law of tact' that always interrupts contact. Celebrating the intersections between creative and critical writing and exploring diverse literary textures, this book deviates from grasping and licking to false hands and phantom limbs, considering the effects of spectral contact on how we 'hand on' ways of thinking about reading and writing. Key Features: - Conceptualises the relationship between touching and writing through a theory of 'tactile poetics'- Offers in-depth analysis of a range of literary genres including short fiction, poetry, autobiography, correspondence and the novel- Examines writings on touch by Anzieu, Cixous, Derrida, Freud and Nancy- Explores the intersections between creative and critical thinking and writing Sarah Jackson is Senior Lecturer in English and Programme Leader MA in Creative Writing at Nottingham Trent University.
