Partial extraction therapies, also known as socket-shield or root-retained extractions, are a new approach in dentistry that aims to preserve the periodontal ligament and root structure of a tooth during extraction. This book covers the history, clinical applications, and benefits of partial extraction therapies. The chapters discuss the advantages of this technique, including better aesthetic outcomes and long-term stability of dental restorations. It also outlines the potential clinical scenarios where partial extraction therapies may be appropriate. Additionally, this book provides a detailed description of the partial extraction procedure, including the various techniques and instruments used. It also discusses the importance of patient selection and treatment planning to ensure optimal outcomes. Partial extraction therapies are still considered an emerging technique, and this book chapter provides the reader with a comprehensive understanding of this innovative approach. It is an essential read for dentists and dental professionals who are interested in incorporating this technique into their practice.
Dental surgical procedures known as guided bone regeneration (GBR) and guided tissue regeneration (GTR) use barrier membranes to control the growth of new bone and gingival tissue at sites where there are insufficient amounts of bone or gingival tissue for proper function, aesthetics, or prosthetic restoration. Directed tissue regeneration normally refers to the repair of periodontal attachment; guided bone regeneration typically refers to ridge augmentation or bone regenerative therapies. Similar to direct tissue regeneration, guided bone regeneration concentrates on the development of both hard and soft tissues for periodontal attachment.
The replacement of teeth from the anterior maxilla is most challenging because of highly specific soft and hard tissue criteria in addition to all other esthetic, phonetic, functional, and occlusal requirements. Anterior tooth loss usually compromises ideal bone volume and position for proper implant placement. Implant diameter, compared with that of natural teeth, results in challenging cervical esthetic. Unique surgical and prosthetic concepts are implemented for proper results. In spite of all the technical difficulties that may face the restoring dentist, the anterior teeth implant is the modality of choice to replace missing anterior maxillary teeth. Although the teeth in a day¿s time protocol require considerable sophistication in according the questions of the prosthodontics team, it offers patients a number of significant advantages, compared to traditional implant placement protocols. The number of office visits required is minimal. Patients who have to travel long distances to undergo fixedprosthodontic rehabilitation particularly benefit from the condensed treatment time.
