Neuroscience has now discovered a pathological brain process, Hyperapoptosis, in which neurons (brain cells), die at an accelerated rate, culminating in actual shrinkage of vital parts of the brain, which occurs in neurological illnesses like seizures, Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease, and is now known to also occur in major so-called "mental" illnesses, severe major depression, bipolar, disorder and schizophrenia. Neurologists treat hyperapoptosis with rapid diagnostics and advanced pharmacotherapy. Unfortunately, in the current so-called "mental health care system" patients in which hyperapoptosis is occurring, are rarely identified by the many types of therapists or 80% of traditional psychiatrists who emphasize psychotherapy, and have limited background in a new specialty, clinical psychopharmacology, wherein patients in which hyperapoptosis is highly likely occurring are treated in the same manner as neurological patients, with advanced pharmacology. Unfortunately, the upshot of failure to diagnose and properly treat hyperapoptosis, is worsening symptoms, encroaching disabilities in relationships, academics and occupations as well as suicide. It's as if a hand grenade has been thrown at the quality-of-life of the affected individual. Also, a subject reviewed in the book, is the ancient classification of these illnesses as "mental." Hyperapoptosis is a PHYSICAL brain pathology. There must be less stigmatizing way to classify these illnesses.
