Everyone wants to escape their boring, stagnant lives full of inertia and regret. The world is full of cowards. Tune in Tokyo: The Gaijin Diaries, an irresistible new gay, left-handed, diabetic travel memoir by North Carolina native Tim Anderson, takes a heady ride through the great Japanese megalopolis, bobbing, weaving, and karate kicking its way through the shadowy, dangerous underworld of a Harajuku girl-phobic, viola-playing, kabuki-tastic English conversation instructor on a mission to blast himself out of the creative and professional rut he's in and also do some record shopping. Tune in Tokyo illuminates the colorful gaijin life of a young-ish American gaywad who, stuck in Ennuiville with no good employment opportunities in his home city of Raleigh, NC, decides to jet across the world and magically make himself more marketable. He leaves behind his boyfriend, his cat, his CDs, and an increasingly misanthropic existential lifelessness and heads off to a city where the year is 2119 and the future is now. Or maybe tomorrow. Tune in Tokyo: The Gaijin Diaries is a collection of fish-out-of-water stories in which the fish flopping around gasping for breath (and English-language magazines) in the open air of planet Tokyo must slowly but surely learn to breathe, gain his footing, and walk on his own two legs. How else is he going to take himself to the new Uniqlo, use one of those beer vending machines, or buy a Hello Kitty dildo?

At the turn of the century Washington launched a series of invasions and proxy wars against all the independent peoples and states of the region, in the name of creating a 'New Middle East'. That offensive involved mass propaganda and the use of large proxy-terrorist armies, especially sectarian Islamist groups armed and financed by Washington and its regional allies, especially Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and Israel. Resistance to that regional war led to the formation of a loose regional bloc, led by Iran, which is now forming more substantial relations with the wider counter-hegemonic blocs led by China and Russia, in particular the BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). West Asia After Washington addresses how, as Washington's multiple wars for a subjugated 'New Middle East' fail, the global order is shifting against the North American giant. China is displacing the USA as the productive and economic center of the world and new global organizations are competing with those created by the Anglo-Americans. It is in this global context we must understand the future of the Arabic and Islamic countries of the Middle East, now often called West Asia in reflection of that new orientation. Among other things, this alliance is making real what North American intelligence has long feared and termed an 'Iranian land-bridge', extending to the Mediterranean in the west and as far as China in the east. That 'land bridge' between East Asia and Europe centers on Iran, the largest independent state of the region and is, from a Zionist perspective, thought to represent "the most serious long term existential threat to Israel" because it forms a united resistance front in support of the colonized Palestinian people. This book discusses the wars of hegemonic decline, the roots of Western fascism, Zionist cancel culture, the Kurdish card in Syria, the purging of Christians from the 'New Middle East', the betrayal of Yemen, and takes us inside Syrian Idlib. Then it looks into the near future, considering Washington's strategic retreat, the legacy of murdered Iranian Commander Qassem Soleimani, and the possibilities of dismantling Apartheid Israel and the lifting of the siege on Syria and its recovery. The Iranian land bridge to China, Iran's Resistance Economy, regional integration, and the challenge of multipolarity offer insight into the West Asian region after Washington.
A theologically grounded treatment of what it means to be close to God Numerous Christian books aim to provide guidance on relationships with God, but few base their conclusions on a biblical theology of intimacy. In this volume, Tim Anderson develops a biblical and holistic portrait of nearness to God, exploring key themes like God's Trinitarian union, the fall, God's fatherhood, marriage imagery, suffering, and our relationship with the Holy Spirit. A concluding chapter examines contemporary Christian songs that address oneness with God and evaluates their theological messages in light of the previous chapters. Into His Presence is a helpful guide for pursuing intimacy with God and distinguishing contemporary cultural understandings of close relationships from those communicated in Scripture.
The acquisition of Mandarin Chinese, one of the most important and widely spoken languages in the world today, is the focus of this innovative study. It describes the rise of Chinese as a global language and the many challenges and opportunities associated with learning it. The collaborative, multiple-case study and cross-case analysis is presented from three distinct but complementary theoretical and analytic perspectives: linguistic, sociocultural, and narrative. The book reveals fascinating dimensions of Chinese language learning based on vivid first-person accounts (with autobiographical narratives included in the book) of adults negotiating not only their own and others' language and literacy learning, but also their identities, communities, and trajectories as users of Chinese.
