The Mystery of Who Killed Custer is an attempt by the author to discover who might have been the most likely candidate among the Indians to have killed "General" Custer (Lieutenant Colonel). Initially none of the Indians claimed to have killed him for fear of retaliation by the government. It was not until some years later, when the Indians learned that this information was being sought and that they would not be punished for the deed, that they began to come forward with their claims. Many of the claims were contradicted by others, and few had eyewitness confirmation of their claim. It was at this point that the author began to look elsewhere for who might seem to be a more likely killer of the "General."
