The Laughing Man V3 and V4 is a novel written by Victor Hugo and originally published in 1894. The book is divided into two volumes, with the third volume focusing on the story of a man named Gwynplaine, who is disfigured by a cruel act of punishment in his childhood. Despite his physical appearance, Gwynplaine becomes a successful performer and falls in love with a woman named Dea. However, their happiness is threatened by a scheming nobleman who seeks to claim Dea for himself. The fourth volume continues the story of Gwynplaine and Dea as they navigate the challenges of their relationship and the political turmoil of their time. The novel explores themes of beauty, love, and the corrupting influence of power. It also includes elements of social commentary, as Hugo critiques the aristocracy and the treatment of the poor in 19th century France.Overall, The Laughing Man V3 and V4 is a complex and thought-provoking novel that showcases Hugo's skill as a storyteller and social critic.
