Notre-Dame de Paris (titre complet: Notre-Dame de Paris. 1482) est un roman historique de l'écrivain français Victor Hugo, publié en 1831. Le titre fait référence à la cathédrale de Paris, Notre-Dame, qui est un des lieux principaux de l'intrigue du roman. L'intrigue se déroule à Paris en 1482. Au livre XI, Frollo profite du désordre qui règne sur le parvis de Notre-Dame pour emmener Esmeralda avec lui hors du bâtiment, accompagné de Gringoire et de Djali, la chèvre d'Esmeralda. Ils quittent l'île où se trouve la cathédrale et Gringoire prend la poudre d'escampette avec la chèvre. Resté seul avec Esmeralda, Frollo lui réitère ses déclarations d'amour et essaie de la convaincre: il peut l'aider à s'échapper et ainsi la sauver de la mort si elle accepte de l'aimer. Mais elle refuse toujours. Furieux, il la livre aux griffes de la vieille recluse du Trou-aux-rats, en attendant l'arrivée en force de la Justice. Mais au lieu de cela, la soeur Gudule reconnaît en l'Égyptienne sa propre fille, Agnès, volée par des gitans quinze ans auparavant. Le roman se compose de 59 chapitres répartis en onze livres de longueur inégale.
