A beautiful colour illustrated edition of William Blake's most famous poems, with a foreword by Peter Harness.
Rimbaud, Dostojevskij, Hesse, Ginsberg udkommer også her. – Information

Writer and religious rebel, William Blake ((1757-1827) sowed the seeds for Romanticism in his innovative poems concerning faith and the visions that inspired him throughout his life. Whether describing his own spirituality, the innocence of youth or the corruption caused by mankind, his writings depict a world in which spirits dominate and the mind is the gateway to Heaven. This collection of his greatest works spans his entire poetic life from the early, exquisite lyrics of Poetic Sketches to his Songs of Innocence and Experience - a compelling exploration of good and evil. His work ranges from the deceptively simple and lyrical Songs of Innocence and their counterpoint Experience - which juxtapose poems such as 'The Lamb' and 'The Tyger', and 'The Blossom' and 'The Sick Rose' - to highly elaborate, apocalyptic works, such as The Four Zoas, Milton and Jerusalem. Combining poetry and biblical exegesis, Blake's 'The Heresy of Job' offers a radical reinterpretation of the biblical story of Job, presenting a vision of a God who is not all-powerful but rather vulnerable and sympathetic to human suffering. It is often said that two things are unavoidable; Death and Taxes. Certainly the latter is a common thorn in adult life but as to the former it seems that for many people it is merely a hiccup in Life's eternal journey. A journey they wish, if being of good deed and character, to share at the eternity of Heaven's largesse, a reward for Faith and the obligations of Religion. Of course for those not so fortunate an altogether different experience was prepared for them; Hell. Its nightmare visions so terrifying conjured up by Dante and Milton. Here we have gathered together verse by such luminaries as William Blake, Gerald Manley Hopkins, John Milton, Ben Jonson, Rupert Brooke and of course many others to share their thoughts and vision.
"ALL beauty," says Walt Whitman, comes "from beautiful blood and a beautiful brain." The note of mechanical work is that it has no individuality; the note of a work of art is that it is full of it; so, in measuring its beauty, we are measuring some beauty of temperament in the individuality that is behind it; and it is by understanding this temperament alone that we gain understanding of beauty, or appreciate the working of that fictional element which must separate things of art from things of history. Therefore, when we come to the study of a man's work, who has done things which seem to us beautiful, we must be sure that we understand the temperament which was the cause of his art. Especially must we do so when, as in the case of William Blake, there is so much in the beauty of his art that is strange and difficult to comprehend, something, too, less easy to name beauty, which seems to obscure instead of reveal the value of his personality.

William Blake (28 November 1757 - 12 August 1827) was an English poet, painter, and printmaker. Largely unrecognised during his lifetime, Blake is now considered a seminal figure in the history of the poetry and visual arts of the Romantic Age. What he called his prophetic works were said by 20th-century critic Northrop Frye to form "what is in proportion to its merits the least read body of poetry in the English language".His visual artistry led 21st-century critic Jonathan Jones to proclaim him "far and away the greatest artist Britain has ever produced". In 2002, Blake was placed at number 38 in the BBC's poll of the 100 Greatest Britons. Although he lived in London his entire life (except for three years spent in Felpham), he produced a diverse and symbolically rich oeuvre, which embraced the imagination as "the body of God"or "human existence itself". Although Blake was considered mad by contemporaries for his idiosyncratic views, he is held in high regard by later critics for his expressiveness and creativity, and for the philosophical and mystical undercurrents within his work. His paintings and poetry have been characterised as part of the Romantic movement and as "Pre-Romantic". Reverent of the Bible but hostile to the Church of England (indeed, to almost all forms of organised religion), Blake was influenced by the ideals and ambitions of the French and American Revolutions. Though later he rejected many of these political beliefs, he maintained an amiable relationship with the political activist Thomas Paine; he was also influenced by thinkers such as Emanuel Swedenborg.Despite these known influences, the singularity of Blake's work makes him difficult to classify. The 19th-century scholar William Rossetti characterised him as a "glorious luminary", and "a man not forestalled by predecessors, nor to be classed with contemporaries, nor to be replaced by known or readily surmisable successors".
