Did you know Van Gogh was a failed missionary? Did you know that Picasso made a bargain with God to stop creating art when he was 12 years old if the life of his sister would be spared?Did you know Andy Warhol attended Mass almost daily?Did you know one of the most revered paintings of the Crucifixion was done by Marc Chagall who was Jewish? In this book you will learn the answer to each of these questions is yes and it will change the way you see the work of these renowned artists. Knowing the story of each person who created the painting will give you a completely different appreciation for the work itself. Most assume that modern artists had no spiritual influence in their lives, since religion has been largely dismissed from the public square, but as you read these pages you will see that is not true. Knowing about the life of the artist will give you a different lens through which to see the work--a way to see spiritual influences even if they might not be immediately evident. Prepare to be surprised and delighted and to never look at the work of these artists the same way as before.

Miracle of Effort: Thalia's Autism Journey is the story of Thalia being diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder when she was two years old and her journey to graduating college and becoming an elementary school teacher. Through Thalia's journey, this book aspires to offer a sense of what children with autism and their families go through. The book takes the reader through the experiences, the emotions, the challenges confronted, the sacrifices demanded, and the decisions that needed to be made at different stages of a child's life. Thalia's family is at the center of this story. There were several critical decisions made by Thalia's parents, Donnie and Lorena. They were confronted with a traumatic reality that required perspective and patience, while fighting through moments of despair and sadness. It was Donnie and Lorena's determination that they would be part of the solution for their daughter that shaped Thalia's journey. It is Donnie's cousin, Lisa, who noticed Thalia's autistic behavior symptoms and delivered her initial learning therapy sessions. Each child that is diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum will have a different experience with the disorder. No two situations are the same. The following is Thalia's unique autism journey. Her Miracle of Effort. The book is intended to offer hope to the many families that are confronted with this disability. As Thalia says, "an autism diagnosis does not mean that a child cannot be successful. It just means that he or she will see the world in a different light." Thalia's simple hope is "to inspire autistic individuals to live up to their full potential and provide optimism to families."

After working for almost a decade as an award-winning television news reporter, Crystal Bui had become numb to the idea of death-until George Floyd's murder in Minneapolis. Reporters are responsible for documenting history, and in Minneapolis, that also meant dodging tear gas and rubber bullets. It meant fighting systematic sexism and racism while working for a "progressive" newsroom that may have perpetuated the same injustice behind the scenes. In this story within a story, Bui details the intimate moments of her life when the cameras stopped rolling, George Floyd's murder and the men responsible, and what it's like being an Asian female news reporter in a heavily white, male-dominated industry. While sharing insight into her personal trauma and the events affecting her life and career, Bui exposes the grave shortcomings of the news industry during what was one of the largest social justice movements of our time.

When meeting their new grandchildren, new grandparents may wonder, "What is the name for me?" Do you struggle with naming yourself for your new role as grandmother? This is one grandmother's funny, sing-song approach to the "name a grandmother" challenge. When she was a new grandmother, she did not know what her grandchildren would call her. She considered, discussed, and then she decided. "Call me anything but Nana-even Banana will do!" And so, she became Banana to her grandchildren. She always planned to be Grandmother-an elegant title. But then she realized she needed a name that was more fitting for who she was. And so Banana she is and always will be.This children's poem offers a glimpse at an unusual and humorous response to the problem grandparents face of choosing the name their grandchildren will use for them.
