Palladio-Villen waren Schauplätze bedeutender Momente des öffentlichen Lebens, aber die Grundsätze der Hygiene, der Privatsphäre und des Komforts, die wir heute für wesentlich halten, galten dort nicht. Auch Möbel im heutigen Sinn gab es keine. Living with Palladio in the Sixteenth Century untersucht, wie Palladios Häuser, ihre Stockwerke und Räume gestaltet waren, damit sie das Leben einer so heterogenen Gemeinschaft von Menschen strukturieren konnten. Ihre hierarchische Struktur - mit dem Eigentümer (padrone) an der Spitze und allen am Haushalt Beteiligten (famiglia minuta) darunter - ist der zentrale Ausgangspunkt dieser Analyse. Antonio Foscari zeigt auf, wie Palladio die häuslichen Funktionen seiner Privatgebäude in den Vordergrund stellte, und schliesst damit eine wichtige Lücke in der Forschungsliteratur zu dem berühmten Renaissancearchitekten.
