In studying both John Mbiti and Geoffrey Parrinder (in African Philosophy), we find exemplified, the term ¿homo religiosus¿ which explains away the fact that man cannot do away with religion because it is natural to him and is the life of the community. This Mbiti-Parrinder¿s belief has surreptitiously crept into many philosophical circles today which seem to be, but a step to silence Atheists. The justifications for this belief in ¿homo religious,¿ many as they are, have seen a catastrophic arousing of intolerance, extremism, violence and divisions of all kinds. For some scholars like Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, Daniel C. Dennett and Richard Dawkins, Atheism or unbelief also has its place in these justifications. On the other hand, Karl Marx had sought through his revolutionary writings to assert refreshingly, that it was the belief in God that made the proletariats to remain in the shackles of poverty controlled by the bourgeoisies. This book criticizes the concept of ¿homo religiosus¿ by making religion rationally, naturally and ethically irrelevant.
Life there is always cause and effect, what you do today has the tendency to influence what happens tomorrow. It is so disheartening to see a lot of people selling out their valuable values that will have made their life worthwhile tomorrow. This action has resulted to poverty that has knocked so many people down, and set homes and nations to go begging in our today¿s world. Ignorance and family background have driven many people into disvaluing their values. The set of values and principles an individual gets acquainted with while growing up have a subtle way of influencing the quality of his/her decision through life.
Thanksgiving¿the giving of thanks¿to God for all His blessings should be one of the most distinctive marks of the believer in Jesus Christ. We must not allow a spirit of ingratitude to harden our heart and chill our relationship with God and with others.Nothing turns us into bitter, selfish, dissatisfied people more quickly than an ungrateful heart. And nothing will do more to restore contentment and the joy of our salvation than a true spirit of thankfulness. In the ancient world, leprosy was a terrible disease. It hopelessly disfigured those who had it, and it permanently cut them off from normal society. Without exception, every leper yearned for one thing: To be healed. One day 10 lepers approached Jesus outside a village, loudly pleading with Him to heal them. In an instant He restored them all to perfect health¿but only one came back and thanked Him. All the rest left without a word of thanks, their minds preoccupied only with themselves, gripped with a spirit of ingratitude.Today, too, ingratitude and thanklessness are far too common. Children forget to thank their parents for all that they do. Common courtesy is scorned. We take for granted the ways that God & others help us.
The fascinating idea that Jesus of Nazareth may have been from the house of Levi, as well as the house of David, has been in my thoughts for years. When Jesus asked his disciples who men said he was they came up with four Levitical answers, Jeremiah, Elijah, John the Baptist, or one of the Prophets. Jesus taught people like the Levites were supposed to. He did not rule like his father David. The Dead Sea Covenanters were expecting a Messiah of Aaron. Jesus took over from John the Baptist, a Levite man, proclaiming Repent the Kingdom of God is near. The evidence is clear, his mother must have come from a marriage between the house of David and Levi. This book brings a wealth of evidence to the question. The most striking piece of evidence is that of the Second Century Ephesian Bishop Polycrates (130-196). He claimed, in a debate with the head of the Roman Church, Pope Victor I, that the beloved disciple, John, became a priest in the Temple and wore the petalon. The petalon was a headband that carried the phrase Holiness to Yahuwah on it and was only worn by the High Priest. Was John then a high priest? Was he related to Theophilus for whom Luke-Acts was written?
People's Opinion About The Book" Focusing on Blind Spots Chapter one of this book helped me to overcome million thoughts and questions in my mind when I was faced with heartbreak, due to the nature of the death of my younger one. It consoled me and through it I got comfort. Truly, everyone needs to have this book, because as the name implies...¿focusing on the blind spot¿...deals with the aspect often ignored by many writers. This book will be my birthday gift to close friends that love reading. ¿ Mr. Nicholas Ajoboh (Deputy Head Teacher, FINAPS, Primary Wing) When one of my sons, MacPherson Owugah died only a month to his 31st Birthday after a 32-month battle with kidney failure, I could¿t admit that my eyes would never behold him anymore in my lifetime. I felt overwhelmed by the incident and gave so much time to sorrow and anguish of spirit, until six months later when a friend, Dr. Stephen Olali called me on phone one day to say that he had one of his Christian brothers, Faithfulness Osagie for me to edit a book which the brother had written. I was soon to realise that the responsibility came as God¿s perfect plan to ease my mind from the loss of my son. - Mr. Friday Owugah
Historically speaking, the genealogy of Jesus is an old text. However, this biblical passage remains very meaningful for us. As Warren Carter says, ¿The genealogy has, then, a theological agenda, a sociological and pastoral function, and a narrative contribution¿. First of all, this passage is meaningful to me as a Christian writer. Second, it is meaningful to priests, religious, and seminarians. Lastly, it is meaningful to everyone.I invite you to read the book in its entirety in order to grasp its meaning and implication in our postmodern society.
These last days have, along with its vast technological advancement, brought many seemingly tough and faith-choking trials and temptations that the average Christian is contending with in his daily work with our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ. If believers in the glorious faith of the Prince of Peace do not take concrete steps to solidify their faith and spiritual convictions, these varied temptations of our time, have the potential of drowning the faint-hearted.This situation is compounded by the fact that modern technologies have brought sinful schemes & programmes far closer to man.Looking at today¿s world, one does not need the services of a prophet, social, economic or political analyst to conclude that we are in perilous times. There are global economic uncertainties in all nations of the world; economies are failing daily, diverse kinds of satanic and evil happenings such as terrorist acts have become the order of the day. There is high food crisis everywhere and strange environmental weather conditions like the tsunami and voracious floods and earthquake disasters have turn to be everyday occurrences. This book is published to help the Christian believer to survive in times like this.
In the dark hour of a rejected King¿s suffering, two dying scoundrels suffered a similar terrible, self-inflicted circumstance, just as they were also greeted with an equally great opportunity. As the crowd jeered and bristled with hateful words against the despised King, who had chosen to face a gruesome death, one of the malefactors joined in and lent his voice to their tasteless tunes. The other, however, took the side of the King, even though the King had fallen out of favour with the rulers. He saw through the plots of that day, realising his own blots and lot as someone without a slot in the King¿s domain. He made an important, immediate and individual decision thereafter. Amazingly, the King showed the scoundrel what He is always willing to offer to everyone and that had even led him to surrendering his own life. To this scoundrel, then, He extended limitless compassion, precious pardon and divine grace that was beyond the rulers¿ comprehension. He assured him of entry into His Kingdom!
The Christian Scriptures are in large part eschatological. That is, they are dominated in the synoptic gospels by the expectation of a coming kingdom in which God will visit the earth in judgment and in the Epistles by the hope of Jesus¿ return. This hope found its way into Christian history in twinned fashion, namely the return of Jesus and the projection of the original features of the kingdom onto the after life - heaven and hell. The Scriptural accounts of eschatology shaped how salvation would be understood. This volume argues, first, that the delay in God¿s appearance caused Jesus to abandon the Kingdom ideology and, second, that, while the construct continued in the scriptures, John in his writings jettisoned it entirely and reconfigured the gospel message. This reconfiguration enabled not only a more radical understanding of salvation but opened a path to a more radical political engagement for Christians.
In time Judah and his brothers developed hatred from jealousy and envy of their younger brother Joseph. Joseph was favored by his father, who gave him a coat. In looking at the life of Judah and his character, it is hard to see why the tribe of Judah should become so prominent among the tribes of Israel. On the one hand, Joseph lived a righteous life and was blessed with the birth right in place of Reuben, the firstborn. The name of Israel was passed on to his two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh. Yet God also chose Judah and his descendants for a special place in His plan through the ages. The prophecy God gave to Jacob at the end of his life concerning his sons¿ descendants in the latter days reveals a special blessing for the tribe of Judah Genesis 49:1, 8-10.The tribe of Judah has not only been a lawgiver, but a preserver of God¿s written laws. The apostle Paul said, what advantage then has the Jew? Much in every way! Chiefly because to them were committed the oracles that which was spoken or commanded of God Romans 3:1-2
To some, proposal making is old but I beg to differ. I told ladies in our church never to go into any marriage until a man proposes and they accept or rescind. Wait a minute, do people still propose before they get married in this part of the world? It is common to see women pack their load into men¿s houses and they call it marriage. When they are tired, they just call it quits. Some believe the act of marital proposal is for certain cultures in the western world. A real man must be bold and romantic enough to look the lady he wants to spend the rest of his life into the face and say ¿would you marry me?¿ Welcome to Marriage 101 ¿ The act of marital Proposal.

When the truth about sex is not discovered lies will be taught from one generation to the other. Sex is everywhere at the moment but the truth about sex has become very scarce. The parents hardly discuss it, the churches wouldn¿t talk about it and the government doesn¿t even have what to say to our young minds. Yet a statistical projection says if nothing is done 75 million Nigerians will be living with HIV by 2020. This book is a timely wake-up call and an indispensable resource material for every home in a world whose continued existence is threatened by the HIV/AIDS scourge. Pastor Anthony Amalokwu has done a great job in this easy to read masterpiece on the subject of sexuality. His definitions of biblical truths on sexuality will get you glued to the book and his mastery of the subject of HIV/AIDS is highly commendable. If you love and value your family and the future of the family system then you can¿t afford not to read this book with your family. If 75 million Nigerians do not live with HIV by 2020 then this book must be read by everyone on this planet.
