A lost cat adopted by a teenager turns out to be an ancient Egyptian shaman on a 3,000-year-long love quest. He is searching for the magic words of power called Heka, needed to bring back to life his young Egyptian consort. Hindered by fate, but protected by the gods Isis and Osiris, the ancient shaman is locked in a struggle against the sun god Amun-Ra. The teenager, his girlfriend, and a contemporary shaman embark on a number of intriguing treks and discover secrets of the ancient shaman's life and shamanic powers. These journeys ultimately take them all the way back to Egypt and to the ancient shaman's consort mummy. The journey within is about the power of the mind, understanding the world of the divine, undergoing mystical experiences, and discovering the beauties of sacred space. In the face of all shamanic powers, it is passionate, inexhaustible, mesmerizing love that truly drives the ancient shaman in his quest.

I got my start writing the story about my father, John N. McCain, who was with General Patton in his march across France and Germany in WW2. My Dad is now 102, so I could ask questions and get direct information as needed. When I thought about writing the other books about people who had passed on from this life, I asked myself, "Is there enough info for me to actually put a book together?" Turns out that you just have to do a lot of digging and research, but the info is usually out there.Dr. Vernon T. Chew was my mother's grandfather whom neither of us knew, but he was one of our more "mysterious" ancestors. I just felt that the family should have the opportunity to know more about his life and his work. I have been working on this book in some way for at least the past eight years. Researching and writing about these ancestors is extremely rewarding. It feels like I am giving new life to some of these pioneers and opening a window into their lives for future generations.I just felt that this was a story that needed to be told and remembered, not just for our family, but for the many who can also be inspired by a real American who lived life with integrity, a strong work ethic, and a desire to do what is right for all.Gene McCain, Proud Great Grandson

The book is a collection of poems dealing with various themes, emotions and mental states, the overarching, unifying idea being duration. Time is the type of concept that can be either solid or malleable giving one the impression that time can be controlled in one way or another. There are lost times, wasted times and good times. Time is the one quantity that we know for sure to be limited, yet we never tire of wishing for more time. It is also the one idea that always reminds us of our finitude. The poems attempt to capture some of these moments.

Side By Side With New Friends There was not much excitement for the side-by-side kids that summer until Mr. McCurdy's Best of All Talent Shows came to town. News about auditions and prize money brought out the best when Harriet sang and not-the-best when Jimmy John and Buster's version of Mama Don't Allow was not allowed. As a professor of music and music education, I taught and trained music teachers and encouraged in each one a love of children and music. As scholar and author, I wrote journal articles, book chapters, and a professional book When Music Goes to School: Perspectives on Learning and Teaching (Rowman & Littlefield, 2015). I have a beautiful, talented daughter, Eliza, and three outstanding and wonderful grandchildren, Gabriela, Nikolas, and Oliver. The book is a meditation on the COVID-19 pandemic experienced by everyone in the world at some level or another. The main idea emphasized in the book is the fact that if one likes it or not, nature always has the last word. The poems try to address and highlight this perilously important and eternal lesson. This may be a hard lesson to accept for some, but nonetheless it should serve as a great reminder to all humanity that going against nature is never a very wise thing to do.
