Every day for nearly ten years, a special-cut key, called trust, allowed me to step into the lives of people representing four generations -- the silent generation, born 1919-1945; the baby boomers, 1946-1964; Generation X, 1965-1977; and the millennial generation, 1978-2000. Getting to know each one of them in their unique financial situations and finding solutions that continue to serve them well are treasured relationships that I cherish. The experience simply had to be shared to give you and others an understanding of the financial challenges in life and the basic knowledge needed to overcome them. The financial topics covered in this book are wrapped around real-life situations that allow you to identify with and learn from other people's experiences. DESTINATION POINTS is a first of its kind to deliver 'across from the kitchen table' accounts of families on Main Street who work hard for the money and do not have the resources to make the money work hard for them. Why is that? For most people, their financial journey is a struggle because personal financial planning is absent and financial education is silent in their lives. How many times have you skimmed through a book to find that only a small percentage of its contents are applicable to your situation? Financial education covers an extensive range of topics such as investing, money management, consumer credit, stocks, bonds and a host of financial and investment product solutions. Would you buy all the books about every topic of financial interest? Most likely not and you probably would not have the time to read them as well. DESTINATION POINTS delivers essential financial topics in a cohesive, chunk-style learning designed to stimulate your interest and encourage you to learn more. If you find your financial journey to be a struggle, DESTINATION POINTS makes it a little easier.
Miles Levin, a gifted but unfocused teenager from suburban Detroit -- whiling away hours on videogames -- is jolted by a diagnosis of a deadly cancer. Working out his feelings in writing on a blog, his charm, humor, spirit, and unceasing honesty drew the attention of readers from around the world. You -- as have tens of thousands of others -- will be amazed, humbled, and helped by what he wrote as he struggled with the hardships destiny imposed on him. While most of Miles' days were challenging, some were filled with the happiness every teenager hopes to have -- the thrill of first love, the fun of prom night, and the caring and admiration of friends. Cancer was bringing an end to his life, but he brought completion to his life. In so doing he inspires us to be mindful, loving, joyful, and thankful. He left us an enduring gift, thereby fulfilling his greatest desire when he wrote: "Dying is not what scares me; it's dying having had no impact."
In this book, quality education is presented as a holistic and futuristic process. It upholds and conveys the ideals of a sustainable world. It takes into consideration the social, economic and environmental context. Therefore, quality education is presented as a locally relevant and culturally appropriate. It is informed by the past and relevant to the present, and prepares individuals for the future. In other words, the education of the future at all levels must not focus purely on the theoretical, but rather blend several theories and practice to respond to the real needs of real people. The question asked in evaluating every possible change is simple: Is it in the best interest of the students? To be sure, education teaches people to be better individuals, family members, community members and citizens. However, in order for that success to occur, education must offer a balance of relevancy and results. With this in mind, this book goes beyond the theoretical aspects of improvement (although very limited). In fact, it focuses on approaches to optimize the educational processes for better results. It addresses several old time tested methods to improvement and it introduces some of the newest methodologies of Six Sigma and Lean. Finally, it introduces reform ideas to education from K-12 curricula as well as post secondary education.
