In today's uncertain times, millions across the globe are in search of spiritual relief from the wars and economic strife plaguing society. For those seekers, NO Zen, a collection of one hundred original quotations, may offer a glimmer of hope-by way of a hearty guffaw. By compiling this refreshingly irreverent assortment of "spiritually incorrect wisdom," Zen Psychoanalyst Stephen Slade Tien extends a challenge to his readers to laugh at themselves as well as their religious beliefs, rituals, and sayings in order to be truly enlightened. In doing so, readers just may find themselves on a higher path to enlightenment after all, a path that will provide them with a light-hearted glimpse into their own souls. Unlike other books on Zen, Eastern philosophy, and personal growth, NO Zen is 100% original, not merely a rehashing or new translation of time-worn and now-cliché spiritual wisdom. Rather, this little book is a slyly tongue-in-cheek guide to modern enlightenment.

In 1939, the French Government perceived the Japanese to be an imminent threat to its Asian colony, French Indochina and sent retired four star general Georges Catroux to develop a military presence capable of defending the colony from the Imperial Japanese Army. General Catroux determined that the colony was woefully ill-prepared to defend itself and appealed to his own government and the British for help. His appeals were denied by both countries which were now involved in World War II. The United States reluctantly agreed to sell military equipment and munitions to French Indochina for cash. Legend has it that Catroux raided the treasuries of Indochina. Before the purchase could be consummated, France fell to the Germans. No friend of the Vichy Government, General Catroux hid the gold and left Indochina. In this story, its location remained a mystery until two grunts, by serendipity, discovered the gold during the U.S. involvement in Vietnam.

Have you ever been judged incorrectly by someone? Maybe you have been guilty of casting a few stones of condemnation yourself. Judgment is one of those concepts that has been misunderstood, misused, or not used at all. This book is first, a starting point for understanding how God judges us. Secondly, it is a guide for the application of judgment in our lives; how we should and should not judge each other. Lastly it is a warning against the absence of judgment from our lives. If we choose not to judge, wickedness may find its way into our lives. (Ecclesiastes 3:16) Judgment should not be scary, it should be understood. This book will not only take you to that place of understanding - if you allow it, it will take you into the presence of the most merciful judge you will ever meet.

The Pharisees were passionate about being faithful to God, but they became misguided. The author shares his unsettling discovery of twelve pharisaic tendencies in his own life, which are also common in Christianity today. He shows that those of us who are the most passionate about following God faithfully are the most vulnerable to the Pharisees' errors. These problems hinder our journey into grace and intimacy with Christ. They cause unbelievers to distrust us and become disillusioned with Christianity. In his easy-to-read, practical teaching style, the author examines the passages where Jesus confronted the Pharisees and makes thought-provoking observations regarding our Christian faith and churches today. Looking into the mirror of Scripture, he helps us identify and overcome these Pharisaic errors, grow deeper in our relationship with Christ, and nurture a faith that becomes contagious to others around us. This book includes practical insights into personal spiritual development as well as ministry. It helps to distinguish between church problems and real Christianity as Jesus intended it to be. Includes study guide, discussion questions, and journal pages for personal or small group use. "I wonder if there is a little Pharisee in all of us? This book challenged me to look in the mirror and reevaluate my relationship with Christ." - Mark Batterson, pastor and author of "In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day" and "Wild Goose Chase." "I found the book compelling and challenging... The book will make you think." - Dr. David Little, mission board president. "...an authentic, soul-searching, conversational style that allows the reader to see how this author humbly applies what he has discovered.... His 'walls and fences' vividly illustrate Phariseeism in a unique and unforgettable way.... When I was finished reading, I loved Jesus more and could not help but worship!" - Dr. Bob Eckler, pastor and Christian counselor.
