"The Oxygen Plan was a life-changer simply because it put me in control of my choices, while giving me structure to define and categorize my issues." -Lorraine Lucciola, freelance writerWhy Oxygen? Oxygen supports life. We don't think about the science of breathing, of simply inhaling and exhaling, because we do it naturally, every minute of every day. The explanation is so simple that we forget it's even happening. We're part of a process called photosynthesis, the reciprocal exchange between plant life and humans. We involuntarily emit carbon dioxide; plants take it in, and produce oxygen for us to breathe. The cycle continues to sustain life on earth. I get it. Try it now. Inhale. Exhale. There. You've just put the very first step of The Oxygen Plan into motion. Oxygen and the Stress Connection: No One is Immune The Oxygen Plan focuses on the universal, common denominator that applies to everyone: STRESS. The Oxygen Plan offers viable behavioral tools and professional support for abundant happiness, fulfillment and maximized potential, by exploring the foundations of stress, which are different for each of us, and by presenting new methods of managing it. Our goal is to usher you into the green, by presenting a multi-faceted understanding of what being healthy-physically, emotionally, socially and behaviorally-feels like. Optimism is its own self-fulfilling prophecy. Optimism embraces our hope, our strength and our perseverance. One positive thought or action engenders the next positive thought or action. Optimism is powerful and persuasive. It tells your brain that you can do great things. And you can. Author Eric Lucas, the founder and chief executive of The Oxygen Plan Corporation, is a marketing executive with a long track record of creating breakthrough innovations and leading them to success. Prior to creating and leading The Oxygen Plan, Lucas spent 22 years with General Mills, rising to the level of corporate officer, vice-president of marketing and head of New Ventures for the 31,000 employee Fortune 200 Company. He also led promotional campaigns for the 1996, 2000, and 2002 Olympic Games, Disney, NFL, NBA, and MLB for General Mills.
"Skyrm makes complex financial scenarios accessible to all interested readers in an informative and entertaining manner. We can all learn something from this book." -Thomas Peterffy, Chairman, CEO, and President of Interactive Brokers"Skyrm put together the story of MF Global like no one else could in providing the ultimate autopsy covering destructive financial engineering that's played such a big role in our capital markets." -Lawrence G. McDonald, New York Times best selling author of A Colossal Failure of Common Sense"God is in the details...first come the reporters, then the lawyers. Skyrm's book is the necessary antidote. Only someone who has 'done' it can explain it. Perhaps the best 'counterfactual' rationale for reading The Money Noose: If John Corzine had been able to before, there would likely have been no after." -Stan Jonas, Managing Partner, Axiom Management Partners In 2010, President Barack Obama signed into law the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. MF Global was bankrupt less than a year after the law's passage. THE¿MONEY¿NOOSE is a general accounting of the facts that led to MF Global's collapse, as well as the story of the major players involved. It is a chaotic story, one in which individual actions taken in and of themselves are relatively minor. But the sum of those individual actions equal the same end result. How, then, can investors protect themselves from this outcome? The best answer is education. Investors need to be fully aware of what is involved in the investment process, and that includes an understanding of seg funds. It is, after all, their money. This book is designed to tell the story of MF Global, what went wrong and how things came to an abrupt end. In those regards, it's an incredible story. Scott E.D. Skyrm is one of the leading figures in the repo and securities finance markets today, and regularly quoted in The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, Bloomberg News Service, Reuters, Market News, and Dow Jones. He recently left Newedge, where he was their "Global Head of Repo, Money Markets, and Fixed Income Clearing." He now is writing commentaries on the repo market, the short-end of the Treasury market, Federal Reserve policy and general Wall Street topics. He has worked on Wall Street for over 22 years and has taken billion-dollar risks on the trading floor, managed a multi-billion dollar balance sheet, and consistently ran one of the most profitable trading groups at every firm where he worked. Prior to Newedge, he managed the repo desk at ING Barings, worked summers at Shearson Lehman/American Express and started his full-time career at The Bank of Tokyo.

"Impeccable Connections: The Rise and Fall of Richard Whitney" traces the fascinating trajectory of a Massachusetts Brahmin who was president of the New York Stock Exchange in the early 1930s. "Whitney fought every attempt by the Federal Government to regulate the exchange back then because it was "perfect" as it was. Widely regarded even by patrician friends as an insufferable snob, with a background from Groton, Harvard, and New Jersey foxhunting country, after Prohibition he bet all his money on a company called Distilled Liquors Corporation whose principal product was "New Jersey lightning" - hard cider. When lightning failed to strike, this symbol of Wall Street integrity tried to support his company's stock price by borrowing money and secretly stealing clients' assets to cover his mounting debts until the scheme finally collapsed and he went off to prison. A self-righteous confidence man - he couldn't get away with that today, could he? Read this spellbinding book, which repeatedly takes your breath away, and learn that some things never change." -Craig R. Whitney, author of "Living with Guns: A Liberal's case for the Second Amendment.""From the opening scene of Richard Whitney striding on to the floor of the New York Stock Exchange on Black Thursday, 1929 Malcolm Mackay had me hooked. The story of Whitney's rise and spectacular fall from grace is one of the great untold stories of American financial history no more. A fascinating book about one of the biggest scandals and scoundrels in American finance. Malcolm Mackay's tale of Richard Whitney's descent from Master of the fox hunt to prisoner at Sing Sing reads like a novel, but is unbelievably true!" -Consuelo Mack, Anchor and Executive Producer, Consuelo Mack WealthTrack"Malcolm MacKay has succeeded at the seemingly impossible task of writing a charming and sympathetic account of an utterly unsympathetic scoundrel. MacKay writes with an insider's knowledge of Richard Whitney (whom he personally knew) and the world in which Whitney lived and worked. The happy result is financial history at its most vivid and readable. " - James Grant, editor of Grant's Interest Rate Observer"That Richard Whitney's extraordinary life of hubris and deceit hasn't been the subject of a book of nonfiction is a bewildering oversight. Malcolm MacKay has filled the void with an irresistible account that he was uniquely qualified to write."-G. Bruce Knecht, author of Grand Ambition: An Extraordinary Yacht, the People Who Built It, and the Millionaire Who Can't Really Afford ItIMPECCABLE CONNECTIONS is both a biography of an important figure and an excellent primer on the reasons for securities regulations that are in today's headlines.Malcolm MacKay is a lawyer and businessman who, as a boy and young man, knew Richard Whitney in his post-prison years. MacKay has thought about Whitney, and why he did what he did, all his life. A graduate of Princeton and Harvard Law School, he lives in Brooklyn, New York.
SUMMARY:This is a true story of personal greed and downfall, corporate greed fueled with economic and social treachery, shareholder waste and discrimination at AIG, 70 Pine Street in the heart of the financial district. This address is known as the AIG Tower, hence the title Tower of Thieves. The central character is a man with a wife, a family, who has cheated his way to the top by doing good. He is responsible for leading a 60 billion dollar organization with over 40,000 employees worldwide at one of the largest companies in the world. What he sees and what he does validates what unchecked power on Wall Street will do to a man and what it has done to an entire company and country. The events at AIG lead right to the CEO and Senior Vice Chairman and how our guy fights an entire corrupt organization and how he became one of those he despised.
Stanley Hayami was sixteen when he was sent to Heart Mountain, an internment camp for Japanese Americans during World War II. He kept a diary of his life in the camps, augmented with sketches and drawings. In 1944, like many young Nisei men, he was drafted into the 442nd Infantry Regimental Combat Team, an all-Nisei unit, continuing to write and earning a Bronze Star. He never lost his faith in America, and remained defiantly patriotic to the last. He was killed in combat in Northern Italy on April 23rd, 1945, while trying to help a fellow soldier. He was nineteen years old. This book is based on his diary, now in the permanent collection of the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, Ca.
The decades-old question surrounding the death of the Red Baron has been embroiled in controversy. In this book, the author has uncovered new information and insights, shedding new light on the events of that day. This is a true story of young men who fought and died for their country. It puts the reader behind the stick of a Sopwith Camel from the pilot''s point of view. This is the first of two volumes.Part One of this comprehensive study covers the life of Captain Arthur Roy Brown, who is well-known as an ace fighter pilot. The basic story is told in Brown''s own words, via his previously unpublished letters home and the entries in his Pilot''s Flying Log Book. His surviving Combat Reports are also included. The letters and the Combat Reports are unedited, and are used to tell the story within a military, historical and geographical context. They are accompanied by over 500 photographs, most of them never before published, plus diagrams and maps. Part Two of the book covers Captain Brown''s encounter with Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron, in detail. The story is told on the basis of recently released official documents of the time, together with recently offered letters written by some of the participants and witnesses. The new information corrects several well-established beliefs, and is able to provide the true story together with the necessary confirmation. In 1995 Alan Bennett toured the site in France where Captain Brown had attacked the Red Baron on 21 April, 1918. As an experienced pilot of similar aircraft, he had grave doubts as to the truth of some parts of the story. The eventual result was a book written in conjunction with Norman Franks: "The Red Baron''s Last Flight." After plentiful information from readers, Captain Roy Brown''s family and Wop May''s son, plus further research in France, a considerably different picture of the entire event and of Roy Brown''s life emerged. The new book, Captain Roy Brown, tells the complete definitive story.Margaret Harmon is Captain Roy Brown''s daughter. She lives in Arizona, and provided most of her father''s letters. Denny May is Wilfrid "Wop" May''s son. He lives in Alberta and is very active in keeping his father''s legacy alive. Alan Bennett finished compiling his book on Captain Roy Brown around Christmas of 2006. He was always striving for perfection to make sure his manuscript would be as complete as possible. He received correspondence from around the world to help him in this endeavour. Though not in great health towards the end, he nevertheless continued his research with passion and zeal. Alan Bennett passed away in January 2007.
"Let's get the consumer in the game. The idea behind HSAs is a 'supercharged IRA' for health care...No other program is as tax advantaged."-John W. Snow, Treasury Secretary"...HSAs can drastically lower an employer's costs of providing employee health benefits. This may allow more small businesses to offer such benefits." -Fed Brock, The New York Times"These accounts give workers the security of insurance against major illness, the opportunity to save tax-free for routine health expenses, and the freedom of knowing you can take your account with you whenever you change jobs." -President George W. Bush"Laing's new book (The Small Business Guide to HSAs) lives up to its name...an excellent explanation of how HSAs work..." -Greg Scandlen, The New York PostA breakthrough in health care for employees and employers alike, HSAs stand for "Health Savings Accounts." As of January 1, 2004, HSAs are a new option from the U.S. government, similar to an IRA, offering individuals a new, tax-sheltered way to accumulate savings. Tax-free dollars in HSAs may be withdrawn instantly for qualified medical expenses, rolled over without penalty for spending in future years, or invested, to accumulate savings to pay for health needs after retirement. The Consumer's Guide to HSAs answers the question "What's in it for Me?" But responsibility doesn't stop there. You must read your medical reports, check statements, and count your pills carefully. Ask questions. Keep records for future use, and soon you will realize as much of the benefits of consumer-driven health care and HSAs as possible. ¿"Much has been written about firefighters, some of it by people who actually fight fires. Few of the books I have any knowledge of show the mindset of the firefighters with as much insight and candor as this book..." -from the foreword by Hugh Downs¿"Every so often a writer of substantive talent appears through the smokey background to perk up our interest in firefighters and firefighting. George Pickett is just such a man.... In The Brave you will come to know him and a valiant group of men as they speed from alarm to alarm in downtown New York, where the buildings are tall and for the most part old, where bums and drug addicts populate the streets, and where the fire companies hardly ever rest. You will begin to feel that you too are a member of Engine 33, Ladder 9, and, after George's promotion to lieutenant, of some of Brooklyn's busiest fire companies. It is an empowering feeling, until you suddenly realize that these are among the very first fire companies who will arrive one fateful day in their future at the World Trade Center, providing our city with more courage, determination, and selflessness that we ever knew we had. You will then thank George Pickett for letting you into their lives." -Dennis Smith, New York Times' bestselling authorGeorge Pickett served for more than four years in the United States Marine Corps prior to joining New York City's Fire Department in 1969. He served in some of the busiest units in FDNY's history, and worked extensively in Manhattan's lower east side. Assignments included working in the ranks of firefighter, engineer, lieutenant, captain, and acting battalion chief. George worked in Engine 17 for a short period when they responded to almost 10,000 calls in one year. He became the captain of Engine 17, located in the "Fort Pitt" fire station, an area that saw tremendous structural fire duty. He was decorated five times for life-saving acts, and was injured over a dozen times during performance of his duties. Since his relocation to Arizona, George has been the fire chief of two departments adjacent to Phoenix. As a fire chief, George served as the president of the Arizona Fire Chiefs Association and as a director for the Western Fire Chiefs Association. His education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in fire science and management from the City University of New York-where he was a Beller Zeller scholar. George lost many friends and associates at the WTC tragedy and flew back to New York to help look for victims at Ground Zero, representing his assigned fire department in Arizona. George has three adult children and lives with his wife in the Phoenix area.
The Growing Menace-More and more, homeowners and gardeners throughout rural and suburban America have been forced to deal with a growing menace.... Deer! From coast to coast, deer have developed quite an appetite for almost anything growing in our landscapes and gardens. Deer frequently feed on flowers, fruits, vegetables and the twigs of trees and shrubs, often permanently disfiguring them. In winter, bucks rub their antlers on sapling trees and shrubs, severely damaging the bark and seriously threatening the health and life of the plant. As a result, deer have become a big a nuisance to home gardeners and professionals who design and maintain landscapes and gardens. The economic costs caused by deer browsing damage in the U.S. amounts to millions of dollars every year. Replacing plantings is one thing but even more is spent on repellents, fences and numerous other strategies for protecting landscapes, home gardens and agricultural crops from deer browsing damage. Suburban sprawl, increased abandoned farmlands and unchecked growing populations of deer are just some of the reasons deer have become such a costly nuisance around the country. This book is to help and guide home gardeners and professionals with creating pleasing and colorful flowerbeds and borders in deer country by using deer resistant flowers and other plants. With a list of well over 350 flowers and ornamental plants, Flowerbeds and Borders for Deer Country will help you select plants that are known to have a resistancy to deer browsing damage. By making the right choices you'll be able to significantly reduce or eventually eliminate the need for using repellents, fences and other means of protecting your garden from damage by deer. Flowerbeds and Borders for Deer Country focuses on herbaceous flowering plants, ornamental soft- stemmed flowering plants and plants valued for their interesting foliage. All plants listed are known to be resistant to browsing. Included are lists of annual and perennial flowering plants, groundcovers, vines, flower bulbs, herbs and ornamental grasses that are known to have a resistancy to deer browsing damage in most areas of the continental U.S.Vincent Drzewucki Jr. is a horticulturist, lecturer, and director of the Long Island Nurserymen's Association in New York State.
