A handbook for obstetrics and gynecology residents who are starting to elaborate on laparoscopic surgery which does not aim to present new techniques nor to illustrate the history and evolution of laparoscopic surgery. Instead the authors have created a comprehensive text able to provide the minimum knowledge for one to operate safely and with confidence. They believe that a minimum proficiency in laparoscopy is necessary for every new gynecologist. The book has been designed to live in every resident's pocket and not his library. To stimulate further studying a list of suggested literature can be found at the end of each chapter. In recent years laparoscopy has been used more and more in the management of gynecologic cancer we felt that it was necessary to allocate a significant portion of this handbook on the laparoscopic management of gynecologic malignancies. In addition a chapter on robotic surgery has been included. At the end of this handbook the reader can find algorithms regarding troubleshooting and management of emergency situations in laparoscopy.

On 3 May 2017, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and its Medical School, completed 180 years of continuous and uninterrupted operation. Celebration of this noteworthy anniversary deserved something special. To that end, the authors -decided to prepare and publish an atlas of illustrated representative samples of the Medical School's extensive pathological-specimens collection. The museum is housed in a specially designed area of the Medical School's 1st Department of Pathology and is the foremost and most extensive of its kind in Greece. It is continuously enriched with specimens selected from the 40,000 cases per year handled by the 1st Department of Pathology. The collection portrays the intertemporal course of various diseases commonly occurring in Greece. Incidence of several of these diseases has been significantly reduced through associated research and its contribution to the evolution of modern medicine.

The Illustrated Guide to Microsurgical Techniques in the Rat (with elements of surgical anatomy) could serve as the manual of a microsurgery class. It is addressed to surgeons who want to learn microsurgery, while taking a class or working on their own in some laboratory, in order to use microsurgery in research or clinical practice. The elements of surgical anatomy present in the text are rather necessary because the microscope is going to magnify this lack of knowledge.

The Aegean Sea, the original Archipelago of the Greeks and Romans, is a truly unique sea. Located among three continents, each one leaving a distinct mark on local biodiversity, the Aegean comprises over 6,000 islands that vary extensively in size, age and palaeogeographical history and are home to hundreds of endemic species. This is the first thorough scientific compendium dealing with the terrestrial components of the archipelago's biodiversity. The 48 experts that have authored its 16 chapters offer a detailed account of research that has been done so far in many animal and plant taxa, as well as a review of the geology and paleogeography, the phylogeography and the biogeography of Aegean Islands, highlighting its importance as a paradigmatic system for such studies at a global scale. The volume is dedicated to Professor Moysis Mylonas, mentor of the majority of authors, who retired in 2018. Professor Mylonas devoted his entire career to research on Aegean biodiversity and biogeography, founded the Natural History Museum of Crete (at the University of Crete), and has been the founder of the ecological and evolutionary biogeography 'school of thought' in Greece.

Botany, like other branches of western science, has its roots in ancient Greece, with Theophrastos of Eressos (372-287 B.C.) generally considered to have been the first botanist. Modern botanical studies in the area started with the travels of John Sibthorp and Ferdinand Bauer in 1786-1787, the results of which were subsequently published in the great Flora Graeca Sibthorpiana, appearing in ten heavy folio volumes in the period 1806-1840. An annotated re-issue was prepared by Strid%Strid (2009-2013). For a brief history of the botanical exploration of Greece from the time of Sibthorp to the present, see Strid (2020a). The present Atlas covers the whole of Greece. Maps have been generated from the Flora Hellenica Database which was started in 1989 and now comprises 1,052,338 geo-referenced records, 436,353 of which have been registered by the present author. Records in the database comprise 502,882 herbarium collections and 321,759 literature reports, the rest being field notes, photographs, etc. This Atlas will provide a baseline for future studies of Greek biodiversity.

The first edition of Atlas of Surgical Anatomy for General Surgeons, published in 1985, was well regarded and strong interest in it has continued. During the time it has been out of print an overwhelming number of inquiries from people wanting to acquire a copy have been received. So, obviously there was a need for a new edition.
