These messages reveal the lives of four men found in the Old Testament--Samuel, Saul, David, Solomon. But this is not just a study of these men, it is a study of spiritual character, which is essential for establishing the kingdom of God. These are qualities that the Lord looks for in the believers for the building of the house of the Lord, in fulfilling the purpose of God, and in accomplishing His recovery work. Do we long to see the kingdom of God? Do we want to be involved in the coming of the kingdom of God and in establishing His kingdom? If so, then we must possess spiritual character. May the Lord work to produce character in His people, the kind of character that will come to the throne and reign with the Lord Jesus. May His people deny self, take up the cross and follow Him. This book shows the heart of God for His people in this essential matter of building spiritual character.

What is spiritual travail? And is it necessary for the believers to enter into it? The Lord Jesus travailed for the souls of men and it took Him to the cross. He is even now travailing as High Priest for the house of God to be built. He travails for His people to know Christ in an intimate relationship. He travails for His children to grow up into sonship. The travail of Jesus meant agony, suffering, the giving up of His life. He humbled Himself and became obedient to the cross. In the same way His followers are called to travail for His full purpose to be fulfilled, His kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. This means burden, agonizing, suffering, and brokenness over His will and purpose. This is spiritual travail. If there is a willingness to give up one's life for God to have full control, the Holy Spirit will do the rest of the work in the vessel to prepare it to carry His burden and travail for it. This is the highest ministry one can have in the kingdom.

"Lord, teach us to pray." Luke 11:1--As the Lord's people, the church is called pray--it is a calling, a right and a great privilege. There is no calling or power greater than prayer. Prayer links the church to God. "Let Thy will be done as in heaven so upon the earth." When the Lord burdens our heart to pray we soon realize that we do not know how--it is not in us to pray. It causes us to turn to our Lord, and cry out, "Lord, teach us to pray, we need to learn to take up Your burdens, teach us." This book contains very practical help to God's people in the matter of prayer, specifically, corporate prayer. These messages were given in Richmond, VA from 1981 through October 1982. Each message was shared before the corporate prayer meeting of an assembly in Richmond. They have been edited for clarity.

Without vision the people cast off restraint and each does what is right in his own eyes. When the church loses its vision, compromise and complacency come in and the building work ceases. What is the vision that unites God's people? It is Christ and Him alone. And the purpose of the church is to bear this testimony of the Lord Jesus. May the message of this book turn the hearts of God's people back to Christ.

The first Northeast Christian Weekend Conference was held in October, 1988 at Long Beach Island, New Jersey. During that time Stephen Kaung shared two ministries on heavenly vision.

The sheep are harassed and cast off because they do not have a shepherd. The harvest is there ready to be gathered, but where are the workmen? God's people are sheep, but sheep need a shepherd. Without a good shepherd the sheep will be harassed and cast away. There is great potential in God's people; but they need people who can gather them in, build them up and help them so there will be a harvest. What I feel the Lord is saying here is this: Here are the sheep, but where are the shepherds? Whether you call them shepherds, under shepherds, harvesters, reapers, workmen or any other name, there is a principle here which is of essential importance - that is the need for spiritual leadership among God's people. These messages on Spiritual Leadership were spoken by Stephen Kaung in Richmond, Virginia in 1974 and 1977. The spoken words have been transcribed by permission with only minimal editing for clarity.

The text of this conference is taken from Luke 12:42. Our Lord is here asking a question: "Who then is the faithful and prudent steward, whom his lord will set over his household, to give the measure of corn in season?"...We are all stewards of the household of God, and we are supposed to be always ready, always watching, always waiting, never in any sense letting up and going to sleep, and never beating our fellow bondmen and getting drunk. The 2008 Northeast Christian Conference was held October 10th through the 13th at Harvey Cedars Bible Conference, Long Beach Island, New Jersey, on the theme of Spiritual Stewardship. Among the ministries that were shared during the time, brother Stephen Kaung from Richmond, Virginia shared on the nature of the Steward and the Stewardship. These spoken ministries, along with brother Kaung's portion of the Question and Answer session that followed the ministries have been transcribed into this book and edited only for clarity.
