Jamal was a fifth grader living in Brooklyn, New York, with his mother and older brother. The two boys' father was killed in a helicopter accident during his military service in Iraq. Before he left, though. Jamal's dad gave his youngest son some life lessons, including "If it's to be, it's up to me," about taking responsibility for one's personal choices and actions. Using a large mirror in their home, Jamal's father also told his son that there was a large community behind them that they couldn't see but was giving the mirror gazer strength and support. The community that Jamal ultimately envisioned included his father as well as the late Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., former President Barack Obama, Vice President Kamala Harris, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, and others. The goal of the mirror lesson was to enforce in Jamal the assurance that he was not alone, even when his father could not be with him physically. This wonderful book is enhanced by illustrations by Brian Rivera. The story acknowledges the realities of a father's leaving to go to war and the impact his death has on his family. The author also illustrates that an important component in the process of resolution, as well as in healing to process grief, is to acknowledge the feelings that everyone experiences. The mirror serves as an excellent tool to help the protagonist cope, not only when his father leaves but throughout his life. While the book would benefit from some additional editing, the vital life lessons, as well as the compassion and integrity of Jamal's father, are reflected throughout this inspirational tale. Seals' poignant yet encouraging story is well worth reading.

Her memories of childhood and the tragic loss of her father stir her mind, especially when she discovers Linnea's long-hidden diary. As she reads and rereads it and begins to explore the world around her, she gains perspective on the challenges women have always faced. She honors the pioneer's words and imagines Linnea's unwritten thoughts. Leah experiences a surprisingly different time in the old cabin than she expected.
Self-reflection and self-evaluation are two events that occur in every intelligible human being at a certain point in life. In assessing ourselves we look for ways to approve or improve it for a better quality of life. Often times this self-assessment would focus solely on monetary acquisitions. Living our lives to the fullest is suitable for all mankind. It's a great objective to strive for while it's very important to assess our spiritual life from time to time and strengthen this beautiful relationship with the Lord, Jesus Christ. This sacrificial death of Jesus happened only for one reason: To reconcile the world with the Master of the Universe. Our spiritual health depends greatly on our spiritual wealth for God is Spirit. The questions to ask yourself are the following: Can you testify about Jesus? And if so, Who do I say that He is? Amen.

There are factors that orchestrate our behavior, our choices, and ultimately our destiny. These factors very often go unseen and undetected and yet they push and drive us without our conscious permission. The individuals that make up our personal community are also subject to this dynamic. The Bible uses a notion to define our circle "Two will not be together unless they agree" (paraphrased). This book will give insight into the driving elements that not only create the character and purposes of the people around us; it will also explain why we are friendly or associated with those in our lives. Are you sure that the people we socialize with, date, and marry are the people who presented themselves? What you see is not always what you get. Some people have unspoken agendas and their behaviors are telling us something. Revealed in this writing is the how and why we stumble into the minefields of relational horrors. Navigating through troubled times is often fearful, terrifying, and disappointing. We want to make decisions that move us along, but we are also fearful about making the wrong choice. Especially, during this pandemic, we are fearful about our lives being touched by others, but with a deep desire to stay connected. These meditations trace the emotional upheaval of our struggle as well as provide hopeful solace in the struggle itself. Philosophers, sociologists, psychologists, spiritual advisors, and theologians are useful sources for this journey. In my endeavor to clarify and advance the singularity of our struggle, I have gleaned from many of those listed above. But most of all I have endeavored to dive into my own vulnerability, connecting myself to the human struggle for security and love.

Clyde Kinlaw is a washed-up baseball coach who wants to prove it isn't so.Kinlaw was a good ballplayer who became a loyal company man once he retired. He managed his old team, the Portland Loggers. Now he's a scout who doesn't feel as if the new generation of talent evaluators puts any stake in his judgment anymore. He wants to prove them wrong but doesn't know how. Then Kinlaw stumbles upon Taiquon Wattson.Kinlaw's only ally in the Portland front office, Frank Staley Jr., sends him to evaluate Ryne Standback, a first baseman considered one of the country's top high-school prospects. Standback doesn't impress Kinlaw, who dismisses him as a privileged white kid with all the skill money can buy. What draws Kinlaw's attention is a catcher on the other team. Wattson has all the tools but none of the attention. He's a poor kid who lives with his grandmother in a predominantly black town on the banks of the Savannah River. He's known locally for his football, not his baseball, skills. He's a catcher because it's the only position he can play without owning his own glove. Teams always provide a mitt. Taiquon is as raw as the crappie he hauls out of the river to help feed the family. All he knows about baseball is approximately how to play it.Stay away from Sandberg, Kinlaw advises Staley. Let Kinlaw take Wattson under his wing and make him a player. Wattson's not ready. The minor leagues would chew him up and spit him out. Staley finds a place for Kinlaw and Staley to hide. They get to know each other on a long, gradual drive to Texas, where Wattson is playing semi-pro ball and Kinlaw is coaching him.Kinlaw is not rid of Standback, however. Drafted first by Houston, Standback predictably flops in Triple-A, where his agent insisted he be assigned. All of a sudden, Staley smells a bargain and dispatches Kinlaw, already in Texas, to Corpus Christi for a second look. The humbled Standback, his life in ruins, sees that Kinlaw is the only scout who ever dealt with him honestly. Both young men change. Wattson loses his innocence. Standback loses his arrogance. Kinlaw regains his respect.

If the Nigerian political class would understand that you don't need billions of Naira to live well and meaningful life, perhaps, this recklessness in looting public funds would be greatly minimized. This book attempts to review the waste and looting of public funds by our public officials during the decade ending in 2009, categorized the missed opportunities of our nation, and proffered solutions for sustainable political and economic development. Sadly, what I thought was a period of missed opportunity in Nigeria has turned out to be a golden era when compared to what is happening now. The looting has gone from a mere primitive accumulation of wealth by some highly placed public officials to a 'free for all' looting where a vast majority of our government officials are now at liberty to loot public funds entrusted with them without any sanctions.
