Der Philosoph Peter Kampits wurde am 28. Juni 1942 in Wien geboren. Er studierte Philosophie, Psychologie und Geschichte an der Universität Wien sowie an der Sorbonne in Paris. Ab 1968 war er Universitätsassistent am Philosophischen Institut der Universität Wien, habilitierte 1974 und wurde 1977 zum Professor für Philosophie ernannt. Kampits war Vorstand des Institutes für Philosophie und Dekan der Fakultät für Philosophie und Bildungswissenschaft. Von 2012 bis 2016 leitete er das Zentrum für Ethik in der Medizin an der Donau-Universität Krems. Seit vielen Jahren ist Peter Kampits auch als Vorsitzender des wissenschaftlichen Beirates für die WALDVIERTEL AKADEMIE tätig und so maßgeblich für die Programmgestaltung mitverantwortlich. Diese Publikation vereint Texte zu Themen, mit denen sich Kampits bei den Internationalen Sommergesprächen der WALDVIERTEL AKADEMIE und an der Donau-Universität Krems ständig beschäftigte: Der Einzelne und die Gemeinschaft, Medizin und Ethik, Weiterbildung und Universität, Metaphysik und Postmoderne, Jugend und Zukunft, Religion und Glaube, das Böse und das Gute, Freiheit und Freitod, Alter und Würde, Mitteleuropa und seine Regionen.

The 15th Vienna Gamens Conference "The Future and Reality of Gaming" (FROG) 2021 has explored how magic and games seem almost inextricably intertwined. This volume collects 17 contributions that have emerged from the conference, and which together form a multi-faceted examination of the "Magic of Games".

Contemporary game scholarship offers a broad palette of theories and methods inherited from such fields as sociology and communication studies, experimental sciences, literary analysis, educational sciences and cultural critique. At large, this inherently interdisciplinary research aims for a holistic perspective on the ¿LUDIC SOCIETY¿. With that in mind, this book is organized into four sections that present related and often intertwined ideas and observations about the ways we manifest ourselves in games and play, how games represent us in the present and in the past, how games and play change us, and what it all may mean for contemporary society. This book invites readers to engage with the key challenges of a ludic society, explore new perspectives and initiate fruitful discussions. It is aimed at both passionate game scholars and all those who want to get a first taste of the multifaceted research field of game studies.

What is happening in Poland? Where is Poland heading? Is Polish society as divided as it is often perceived? How did we get there? What do anti-pluralist tendencies and a gender-backlash mean for the everyday life in Poland? What are possible ways to cope with this? And what are the consequences for Europe?This anthology is the result of a conference which took place in Vienna in April 2018 and offers some insight into debates taking place in and around Poland today. The contributions are very different in expression and stand for themselves. In this respect, the book offers impressions, but no "solutions". It offers suggestions to reflect on Poland in a new or different way, which help to understand Poland and the complex social and political processes that are currently underway.

Global change processes, such as climate change, digitalization, migration movements and economic crises, are among the greatest challenges of our time and also shape the Danube macro-region as a specifically challenging region of Europe. As part of the Danube:Future Interdisciplinary School 2017 in Krems 28 PhD-students and young scientists from Alps-Adriatic Rectors' Conference and the Danube Rectors' Conference universities discussed these questions and developed research proposals within this broad context. These proceedings offer a comprehensive overview of the generated work.The Danube:Future Interdisciplinary School is part of the Capacity Building Module of the Danube:Future project, a Flagship Project of the EUSDR - the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region, in the Priority Area Knowledge Society. Danube:Future is a joint network project of the Alps-Adriatic Rectors' Conference and the Danube Rectors' Conference. It aims at capacity building in the Danube River Basin (DRB) and at providing networking to aid the development common research projects for a sustainable future of the DRB.

We live in a time of social and cultural change. Old patterns are losing their validity and relevance, new patterns are needed and in demand. We need a new approach which can formulate, generate and engage such patterns.The pattern language approach of Christopher Alexander serves this purpose - the interdisciplinary and participatory building blocks for societal change.The PURPLSOC 2017 conference contributions cover 25 domains - from anthropology and automation to political science and systems science - for a comprehensive perspective of current pattern research and practice.

Die Freiheit der Religion ist eines der grundlegenden Menschenrechte, das sich in einem langen historischen Prozess entwickelte. Seine rechtliche Verankerung und Durchsetzung ist eng mit der Herausbildung der westlichen säkularen Moderne verbunden. Gegenwärtig ist die Religionsfreiheit vor allem im Kontext der Integration und Institutionalisierung des Islam in Europa umstritten. Die Beiträge des Bandes gehen der geschichtlichen Entwicklung des Rechts auf Religionsfreiheit nach, analysieren grundsätzliche Herausforderungen im Spannungsfeld zwischen positiver Religionsfreiheit und den Prinzipien der liberalen säkularen Gesellschaft und untersuchen die Frage der Religionsfreiheit am Beispiel der Konflikte um das islamische Kopftuch und den Moscheebau in Westeuropa. Der Sammelband dokumentiert die Beiträge der gleichnamigen Konferenz, die an der Donau-Universität Krems, Zentrum Religion und Globalisierung, durchgeführt wurde.
