Die Spuren der Berliner Mauer sind heute aus dem Stadtbild größtenteils verschwunden. In einem aufwändigen Projekt wurden für dieses Buch zu Fotografien der DDR-Grenztruppen Vergleichsbilder aus dem modernen Berlin gemacht. Ergänzt durch Luftaufnahmen aus der Zeit vor und nach dem Mauerfall entsteht so ein einzigartiges Panorama der Berliner Mauer, anhand dessen man den historischen Wandel im Stadtbild konkret nachvollziehen kann.
