Shaw was sitting shivering in the middle of a deserted, trashed-up alley. The sun was shining down brightly on him-yet he felt cold and very, very scared. A figure entered the alley. Shaw sprang to his feet-standing still and tense. Then he sighed. It was Dean, grinning and walking up to him and stopping just in front of him. Before Shaw could think, Dean swung a punch into the side of his head, sending him reeling into the building on Dean's right. Shaw hit with such impact that it knocked him out, and he crumpled to the ground. With his right hand, Dean caught a knife aimed at Shaw's head. From the back of the alley sauntered the four leaders of the Scar."Nice catch," smirked one of them. But don't worry. We'll take care of your little friend after we've dealt with you." They beat Dean senselessly to back up their threats; then they took turns inflicting wounds that cut deeper than any knife. Having satisfied an old grudge, the four thugs marched off, assured no one would ever dare violate their turf again. Or would they?
In 2004, I was encouraged to preach through the Book of Revelation by a member of the Elliott Baptist Church, John Rushing. I knew it would be a long series and a profitable one. The truths contained in this, the last book of the Bible, are more pertinent today than ever before. These notes give a snapshot of the past two thousand plus years. Our Lord's ministry to the churches is found in chapters 1-3. Christ and the Tribulation are found in 4-18, and Christ and the future are seen in chapters 19-22.There are many Commentaries on this great book of the Bible pinned by John the Revelator as the Holy Spirit of God moved him. This book is not an attempt to provide anything new or different. This outline study aims to provide materials for individual study, pastor's messages, or as a guide to Sunday School teachers. As you turn the pages of this book, I am sure you will gain a clearer understanding of HIS BOOK. Revelation 1:3, Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
Where the Mountains Meet the Rainforest: A Delicious Christmas was written because we love the context of family and the dynamic of generations coming together. This book is a story within a story-a legacy within a legacy-and a product of love. Though I never knew my physical father, I knew that he existed. I never resisted the healthy options for earthly father alternatives. My sons knew both their biological father and grandpa. What a treat, joy, and blessing to watch. No one is perfect, though we only share the best parts. Each of our journeys has something special. To see my children embrace stories of old and get to witness a loving generation of their descendants is so deeply special to me. We offer our books to others through realistic fiction and relationships, which brings a rich perspective of the past and present into one story. It is phenomenal. This story was written over ten years ago and started as a poem. I feared making it a book until my late father-in-law approved it. He knew my heart was to share his legacy and to give our next generation something to look back on-as well as look forward to. It is a joy to use my gifts for the glory of God and the people most precious to me. I also seek to assist other families by sharing these gifts of our most intimate family times. We hope you enjoy the book, Where the Mountains Meet the Rainforest: A Delicious Christmas. It is based on the young life of my children's grandpa and the food prepared and served around Christmas in Guyana. On the other side of the mountains, Guyana is in South America, best known as British Guyana. It is not a Latino country but a West Indian island, having a variety of cultures, including Asian, Indian, African, Latin, and Caucasian. The rain forest is vast with life, has larger-than-life animals, and makes Guyana known for its beauty. Hence, the name of the book. So welcome to a world we have not known but known through our dear grandpa's eyes-whom we love and miss so much. Thank you for your purchase. We hope you will also check out our other books-Rough and Tough Afro Puff, Baby Brother Blues, and Becoming a Bedtime Routine Expert.
A Comparative Study of the Anabaptist and English Baptist Movements offers a unique perspective to Baptist History. The book covers both groups related to Baptist origins in belief and practice. Seldom, if ever, has a book sought to cover both movements in one volume. Through this work, you will receive sufficient knowledge that will inform, explain, and inspire you with in-depth insight into both movements. The book explains the origins and characters involved in the burgeoning movements that have shaped Baptists. The detailed study will not only inspire through courageous biographies but offer explanations of historic actions that stand out in an influential way on the History of Christianity. The timeline presented will help readers understand the happenings from a historic perspective as both movements evolved. Major events and influences are covered meticulously throughout the entire book. The doctrinal section of both groups references Baptist leaders' beliefs that differ from other Christian groups, as well as those beliefs Baptists, share with these groups. The thoroughness of the book is seen in the scope, insight, and lasting impact the Baptist movement has had on the world. It is highly informative for those wishing to understand Baptists through approaching their history and practice from a distinct historical perspective. Most Baptists today have no knowledge of this rich heritage. Nelson introduces us to the early leaders of these movements and identifies the distinctive beliefs of these early Baptists. All Baptists would be enriched by knowing more about the heritage described for us in A Comparative Study of the Anabaptist and English Baptist Movements. _______Steve Lemke, Vice President for Institutional Assessment and Provost Emeritus Professor of Philosophy and Ethics, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminaryi Dan Nelson has taken a different approach in giving us a readable narrative that shows some connection of our Baptist forefathers with the European Anabaptists; plus, many short biographies of different Anabaptists who appeared and were widespread in the medieval period of history. There is a lot to be learned here and the layman can understand the non-technical language of the author who was a Baptist pastor for many decades. _____ Jim Duvall, Editor, Baptist History Homepage
People from all walks of life, even those who have no familiarity with the Bible, have heard the term "Antichrist." But very few really know what it means, even among Christians. Search and rescue? Ha!I couldn't rescue a grasshopper if it were sitting in the palm of my hand! Where the bright idea to volunteer her time to help search for the lost child came from, Danielle Welsh couldn't say, but if she could be instrumental in finding the little girl who was lost in the Smokey Mountains, perhaps she could make her father proud-something she hadn't done in a long time. How had she gotten herself in such a quandary? She remembered losing her footing and careening down the side of a steep slope. Then she bounced off a rock before hitting her head against a tree; at least, she thought that was what happened.Had the blow caused her to become disoriented? Danielle couldn't even remember picking herself up, certainly not hiking any distance, but nothing around her was familiar. Luke Palmer neither needed nor wanted a wife, but he desperately needed someone who could love and care for his motherless child.God, please let them find my little girl!
During those very early wake-up calls, it is easy to be on auto-pilot and difficult to recognize baby's needs. Baby needs you. Your love. Your patience. Your tender touch.Baby's new world is not the safe, cozy, and warm space they remember. Hold your baby close to your heart. Gaze into those sweet, endless eyes and exhale.Colossians 3:14, ESV: And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
