Bertha and Tillie have done some really fun things in their lives and would love to share them with readers. Bertha is your narrator and she will share her feelings, her thoughts dealing with weight issues, bullying, feeling alone and having a sister that was always there for her every step of the way. Although at times it might sound as if Tillie (her sister) is part of the group picking on her, she is not. Tillie is smart, cute, thin and always wanted to be a Broadway star. But, fate steps in and things change for everyone in her family. These stories are told in no particular order. They were put together by the author in the order she wants them read. The stories are based on real life incidents that happened to us growing up. From my sister trying to teach me how to cook, to cleaning our room, we had some really fun times together. My sister passed away and I lost my partner in crime, antics and the one person who called me every morning to brighten my day. This book is dedicated to her and all sisters to let you know that you are blessed and lucky to have a sister in your life. My sister was my best friend, co-conspirator and champion. Some of the proceeds from this book will go to Montefiore/Einstein Hospital for a fund set up in memory of my mom, Ruth, who had Alzheimer's, and The Kessler Foundation who set up a fund in memory of my sister and best friend, Marcia Wallach. Marcia, Bertha and Tillie Forever is for you!
"The Dharmic Leader," no leadership model existed that aligned with Hindu or Buddhist secular core values."The Dharmic Leader" presents a values-based model that draws upon core secular Hindu and Buddhist values that adherents have followed for more than three thousand years. Section I of this book describes the core values and behaviors that reflect the dharmic leadership model. Section II presents an in-depth description of the philosophy that provides the foundation for the dharmic leadership model and how it fits into the West in the 21st century.- "The Dharmic Leader" is organized into four sections: the leader's view of reality, the leader's relationship to self, the leader's relationship to others, and the leader's relationship to nature.- It focuses on the leader, not the followers.- It is centered on following dharma; the individual's responsibility in analyzing each situation, choosing the most appropriate solution reflecting the circumstances of the situation, and taking virtuous action to solve the situation.- It emphasizes the values of respect, humility, equanimity, diversity, the equality of all people, and a holistic view of every situation.- It is flexible. It allows the inclusion of some existing leadership tools and team building techniques.
Righting another's wrong landed D in the witness protection program and cost him family, friends, and everything of substance in his life. Loneliness is his constant companion until he meets Candi, the girl of his dreams. He and Candi embark on a three-week ride to redemption where they deal with mind-numbing deceit, perilous treachery, their overpowering lust for each other and their personal demons. Nevertheless, new opportunities bring a chance to begin again. And, it doesn't hurt that he's got 200 pounds of illicit diamonds to use to ease the pain of those wronged. He will continue the redemption process by way of a well thought out plan involving a 5,000-mile adventure through the Western United States and Canada. When D meets Candice, aka Candi, she captures his heart, mind and soul the instant she 'inadvertently' almost runs him down in the Starbucks drive-thru. Candi joins him on his three-week, two-wheeled ride to redemption, where they're forced to face their personal demons, while dealing with wanton lust, mind-numbing deceit and perilous treachery. Spectacular scenery and a cast of unforgettable characters they meet along the way makes the journey memorable, but nothing prepares them for the sacrifices they must eventually make midway in the ride. "The more things change, the more they stay the same," sadly, does not ring true for Candice and D throughout this first of a two part series. Lust and greed are forever game-changers, even for those who desperately seek redemption.
After decades of being married, author Richard Wiener, now in his 60s, found himself on the journey to find that elusive perfect woman and last date. He went into this experience as a naïve, hopeful guy who thought he'd find the right girl easily. That didn't happen. Instead, he had many dates that started out good but eventually went wrong ... really, really wrong ...Wiener figured that if he'd had these bad date experiences, then other people must've had them, too. Thus, the idea for this two-book series was born. Take My Date, Please!, the sequel to Check Please ... and Hurry!, chronicles these dating disasters. This man vs. woman tell-all details several peoples' disastrous dates and explores the rude and the ugly, as well as the rare prince or princess charming in the single world. The 300+ people interviewed for this book prove that no matter what age you are, whether you are white, black, Asian, European or an alien from another planet, bad dates happen to just about everyone.

Slavers took him from his African home when he was just four years old. He and a group of adults were loaded onto a ship and herded into the hold. The frightened people had no idea they would all be sold as slaves when the ship arrived at its Caribbean destination. There was no ventilation and nowhere to dispose of human waste for those trapped in the hold. Because he was the only child the slavers collected in this sweep, the captain began to feel sorry for him. Eventually he moved the boy to the deck, where he could at least get away from the crowd and the horrific smell.During his time on deck, the crew treated the child badly, making the captain angry. Demanding that the crew treat the child with some respect and care, the captain would yell in his strange voice, "Dammit! Jes leave de kid alone."As he grew older, the boy remembered the captain's kindness and one of the words he'd said - Jes.Now, at 18 years of age, he is just Jes.
"Our freedom today was bought by the blood of millions of service men and women of the military. We had lived through the Depression years. Germany and Japan were trying to take over the world. We were sent to block their takeover, and take back what they had taken. This is just a small part of what I did for my country to help keep it free." -Carl C. Barnes, WWII and Korean War Veteran

Are you a believer? Well, Harry Quinn was not. Skepticism was part of his DNA, and cynicism and distrust were served daily with his morning coffee. So, when the most stunning woman he'd ever seen walked into his office seeking his counsel regarding visions of demons, resident evil and death, he bit his tongue and tried not to roll his eyes as he listened to the beautiful lunatic. As he listened to her recount her experiences, his opinion of her changed - there was a surety about her, and the fear she showed for her family member was real. She was so convincing that he reluctantly found himself saying, "I'll look into it," when she'd finished her story.Harry Quinn, the cynical non-believer, was about to come face to face with a very real bogeyman.
This is the touching and inspirational story of Sala Lewis, who at age ten was left alone to wander the streets of Poland after her family was taken away by the Nazis.Sala had been out with her friends and came home to find her family gone and the apartment where she lived sealed off. Everything she possessed was no longer hers. She had no family, no clothes, no food, and at that moment in time, no future.Sala was strong willed. It was easy to see that, even though she was young, Sala would not get lost in the world. She wouldn't give up and she wouldn't allow herself to be afraid. Her uncompromising determination led her to find the camp where her sister, Dora, was being kept. Once the sisters were together, nothing could stop them.Their love and commitment to each other continued to be beyond reproach throughout their time together. They believed in the American dream and the land of opportunity. The proudest day of their lives was when they became United States citizens. They were more than survivors now, they were Americans!
The Last Empire details how the United States has lost its edge as the leader of the free world. Pointing to such things as loss of political integrity, erosion of its peoples' values, lack of education and increasing criminal activity, author Albert Talker warns that these evils threaten our nation's standing in the world and might bring about the total collapse of our once great empire. A sampling of topics covered includes: Democratic Capitalism, Foreign Policy of the United States, the Shrinking of the Middle Class, Class and Income Disparity, Gun Violence, and Financial Liabilities. This book is a call to arms for middle class America, in the hope that they will take the lead and restore real democracy, freedom and rights to the people of this great nation.
This unusual work of pen-and-ink drawings amusingly lampoons those old, young and middle-aged men who visit the area recreational center (ARC) in Columbia, Missouri, and of necessity use the locker room to change clothes and shower. But it no doubt could apply to any recreational facility. The author is one of such (old) characters. This book depicts some of the behind-the-scenes rhetoric of what those noble beings say and think who come to work-out (exercise) in hopes to shed some flab, tighten-up sagging muscles and generally improve their constitutions.
Fourteen-year-old Joanna Clark, walking home from her London, England, school with her twin brother Samuel, is startled to find the family Volvo screeching to a halt beside them. The twins' mother, breathless with anger and worry, tells them that Dr. Cameron Stafford has just been released from prison in the United States, and that the family will soon be in great danger.Whisked away by their mother to the family's remote refuge in a Welsh wilderness, the twins, their beloved border collie Flurry, and their aunt Martha are pursued by ski-masked gunmen sent by Dr. Stafford to kidnap and perhaps to murder everyone in the family for their role in sending him to prison years earlier. The twins' narrow escapes and miraculous escapades, in company with 15-year-old Gareth Morgan (who seems to have a special interest in Joanna) lead them finally to confront Stafford himself in a final showdown in the wilderness.
