The idea for Researching National Security Intelligence can be traced to a colloquium held at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) in March 2017 and funded by the Intelligence Community Center for Academic Excellence program--Preface.

Films and activities are grouped by proficiency levels, from Intermediate through Advanced, and progress through the levels and through the book.The recent films featured in Interpretazioni span genres, address a wide range of themes, and are set in various parts of Italy, encouraging students and teachers to more fully engage with the complexity of Italian cinema and culture. The many and various activities for each film are divided into three main categories-- prima (before), durante (during), and dopo (after) viewing the film--and include multiple choice, short answer, open-ended answer, and creative tasks that are both oral and written. On tourne! is a one-semester, advanced French textbook (5th/6th semester of instruction) designed to be used as a stand-alone text for a course on French and francophone films or for a French conversation course. This textbook could also be used as a supplementary text in an advanced conversation course, a composition course, or a contemporary culture course. On tourne! guides students to analyze and discuss 13 films from France and the francophone world. Each chapter focuses on a single film and includes pre-viewing activities, vocabulary, information on the cultural and linguistic nuances of the film, and post-viewing activities and discussion points. Moreover, each chapter contains a review of an essential grammatical structure as well as idiomatic expressions used in the film to highlight their pragmatic function. The films included explore a wide array of themes, ranging from family, food, and fashion to politics, religion, and racial/ethnic identities.

This book moves scholarly debates beyond the old question of whether or not international institutions matter in order to examine how they matter, even in a world of power politics. Power politics and international institutions are often studied as two separate domains, but this is in need of rethinking because today most states strategically use institutions to further their interests. Anders Wivel, T.V. Paul, and the international group of contributing authors update our understanding of how institutions are viewed among the major theoretical paradigms in international relations, and they seek to bridge the divides. Empirical chapters examine specific institutions in practice, including the United Nations, International Atomic Energy Agency, and the European Union. Despite the reality that female combatants exist the world over, we still know relatively little about who these women are, what motivates them to take up arms, how they are utilized by armed groups, and what happens to them when war ends. This book uses three case studies to explore variation in women's participation in nonstate armed groups in a range of contemporary political and social contexts: the civil war in Ukraine, the conflicts involving Kurdish groups in the Middle East, and the civil war in Colombia. In particular, the authors examine three important aspects of women's participation in armed groups: mobilization, participation in combat, and conflict cessation. In doing so, they shed light on women's pathways into and out of nonstate armed groups. They also address the implications of women's participation in these conflicts for policy, including postconflict programming. This is an accessible and timely work that will be a useful introduction to another side of contemporary conflict." --

This book is designed to provide foreign language teachers with very easy and practical changes they can make to their existing language teaching curriculum in order to provide students with professional skills to help them succeed in the workplace in the target language. Lear builds on the traditional curricula that foreign language teachers typically use and suggests very easy-to-implement tasks and assignments that will build students' skills in key areas. The book is organized by the type of professional skill, opening with an explanation of the content typically taught that can be tied to this skill (i.e., "here's what you are already doing"). Then, the chapter suggests how to layer professional skills over that content for career prep (i.e., "here's what to add"). Each chapter then closes with suggested materials to add to language curricula, formatted as class activities or lesson plans. Any materials that fall outside the bounds of a short format will be made available on our website. This book will be a very accessibile and practical one that crosses all language barriers.
