In this fine Appalachian novel, Larry Smith chronicles four generations of McCalls, their joys and sorrows, their sins and their nobility.Such regional fiction has always been about people: their connections with one another, their home place, their struggles to survive and to prosper. Its all here, set, in the grand tradition of Wendell Berry and Conrad Richter, against the Ohio landscape: its hills and its rivers, its frontier beginnings and its later industrial development. We care about the place and its people. Finishing the novel, we understand ourselves and our nation with a deeper knowledge. -Annabel Thomas, author of Stone Man Mountain

There's something going on in this country and I can best relate it in fable: the parable of the rabbits, a bedtime story, and the diary of our Ohio trip. • - A Tribute to Clyde Sanborn
    af Clyde Sanborn
    358,95 kr.

While editing the tribute book to poet Robert Sund (A Flutter of Birds Passing Through Heaven, 2016) I heard about "the other poet" in La Conner, Washington, Clyde Sanborn. Knowing nothing about him except that he lived and died like Li Po, I embarked on a journey to learn whatever I could. This tribute book is a rare treasury filled with memories, interviews, photos, as well as Clyde's handwritten poems and paintings. In the tradition of Li Po, Clyde Sanborn was our very own Zen poet, artist and river drifter. Not so long ago, he was a well known fixture in La Conner, but his story has never been told until now. This book provides an adventurous, inspired look at the struggle of an illuminated artist. It will be of interest to everyone else out there in the same boat.
