Wurts before The National Society Magna Charta Dames meeting around the original Magna Charta in the British Pavilion, New York World's Fair, October 10, 1939. And what was their marvelous achievement?"Part II: Pedigrees of the Barons contains individual chapters devoted to sureties, which include the family Arms, a list of persons who may claim descent, and varying amounts of genealogical and biological information. The Channel Islands, primarily Guernsey and Jersey, contributed greatly to the influx of immigrants to the American colonies and the young United States, but the Island emigrants generally receive little attention from genealogists as a distinct ethnic group. In the beginning, they contributed important fishing and ship-building skills, but now their descendants are found in all walks of life. They were so numerous, and so widely dispersed among the colonies, that it is probably safe to say that most American families, that have been here for three or four generations, have some roots in the Channel Islands. This work contains interesting and useful background information on the Islands and Islanders, including maps, lists of Island surnames by state, etc. The bulk of the work is a genealogical dictionary which identifies thousands of known (or probable) Channel Island immigrants to America, and some of their descendants. There is also a section with brief sketches of people well-known in American history who had Channel Island roots: Sir Edmund Andros, John Bertram (merchant), General Sir Isaac Brock, the Cabots of Boston, Sir George Carteret, Buffalo Bill Cody, Philippe Langlois (Phillip English), Deming Jarves, Lillie Langtry, William N. Le Page (remember his glue?), John Wesley Masury (paint manufacturer), Nathaniel Messerve (ship builder), Paul Revere, Henry David Thoreau. This is a reprint of the 1984 edition, updated with six pages of corrections and additions.(1983), 2007, 51/2x81/2, cloth, 748 pp

  • - The Civil War in Indian Territory
    af Ethel Crisp Taylor
    298,95 kr.

General Watie's fame as the greatest Confederate Indian continued to spread. His Cherokee Regiment raided along the Fort Smith-Fort Gibson Road, pounding hooves, shrill Cherokee Rebel yell, and blazing guns. They were like dust in the wind, ever on the move, doing their damage and scampering out of reach. Riding with them and cheering them on, were the spirits of the fallen comrades as shadows in the dust. Their torches claimed Union haystacks and mowing equipment, as their bullets claimed Union Indians and African soldiers. Take a trip back to the 1860's and learn about this little known era of the larger Civil War that was fought west of the Mississippi. The Indian Nations had been forced west by President Andrew Jackson's "Indian Removal Act". This led to seething political rivalries between factions in the Nations. The Civil War further alienated the factions which led to an internal civil war as they chose sides between the North and the South.
