The publication of "The Souls of Black Folk" by W.E.B. Du Bois came in 1903 during a period of significant racial tension as well as division across the United States. After the Civil War ended in 1865 as well as the Reconstruction started, African Americans as well as white Americans experienced complex and frequently hostile relations, particularly in the Southern states.Adopting the Civil War, the Reconstruction period saw substantial modifications, particularly the Thirteenth, FourteenTH, and Fifteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which ended slavery, granted citizenship to all individuals born or naturalized in the United State of America and preserved the right to vote with no regard to race, color, or past status or servitude. Nevertheless, the conclusion of Reconstruction in 1877 brought about the withdrawal of federal troops from the Southern region, enabling white Southern legislators to regain control of their territories and usher in a time of Jim Crow rule.Jim Crow laws forced racial segregation of African Americans and deprived them of their rights. The ensuing laws established a "separate but equal" system which in fact was nothing but equal as well as considerably hampered Black Americans. Race tensions were entrenched via widespread race and lynchings troubles during that time.Du Bois' work had been revolutionary in this particular environment. He challenged the dominant concepts of his era, especially those of Booker T. Washington, who promoted African American progress through vocational training and financial independence, frequently at the price of political representation and civil rights. Du Bois, however, advocated for liberal arts education, civil rights, and political involvement for African Americans. He argued that the "TalenTED Tenth" of African Americans must be educated to lead the way in attaining equal rights and higher financial standards for themselves as well as their families. The release of "The Souls of Black Folk" happened during a period of rising momentum in the Niagara Movement, which Du Bois helped found. The fight to protest racial segregation & disenfranchisement was a call for resistance, and it was the foundation for the development of the NAACP in 1909.Overall, "The Souls of Black Folk" depicts the historic landscape of a country dealing with the residual negative effects of slavery and the job of integrating millions of freed enslaved individuals into its financial, political, and social life. Du Bois' contributions are significant in the debate regarding obtaining racial equality in America, and they're considered a traditional work in the history of social science and civil rights.

Most people experience intrusive thoughts. Yet so many of us (especially those with OCD) feel that those thoughts are so outlandish or so taboo that we must push them away and never allow other people to know that we thought them. In writing mine down for the world to read, I am releasing their power over me, and hopefully inspiring you to do the same."Equally poignant, funny, and revelatory of the emotional burden that can come with living with OCD, Iannetta's poems offer a gateway to others to show they are not alone in their darker moments. Perfect for fans of Rupi Kaur and Jennae Cecelia" - Sophie of Sick Stories
The City of Gods and Monsters Special Edition Hardcover: featuring all-new case laminate art, a map of Angelthene, interior art, and an exclusive bonus scene.Welcome to the city of Angelthene. We hope you survive.Loren Calla has only ever been ordinary. As a human struggling to survive in a city that caters to the needs of vampires, werewolves, witches, and other supernatural creatures, she always assumed her life would remain simple, predictable, and as safe as her world would allow.Until she barely escapes abduction at the hands of Darkslayers-supernatural bounty hunters that possess the Sight, a magical tracking ability that allows them to see a person's aura-and one of her friends is taken in her place. The abductors are demanding a ransom: Loren's life in exchange for her friend's safe return. Loren will do whatever it takes to get her friend back-even if it means accepting help from Darien Cassel, the leader of the Seven Devils, the most feared Darkslaying circle in the city.Darien specializes in tracking down demons and criminals that are better off dead than alive, so when he takes a job to track down Loren and finds out she is human-and couldn't hurt a fly if her life depended on it-he decides to protect her instead of turn her in for a reward. As much as Loren doesn't want to admit it, Darien is her best and only chance at finding her friend alive, if she can somehow manage to get along with him-and not fall head-over-heels in love with him in the process, which is far easier said than done. When more women start disappearing, and some of them slowly turn up dead, Loren and Darien's search for answers takes them deep into Angelthene's corrupt underbelly, where they discover a dark secret that threatens to unravel their world. And when tragedy strikes, Loren learns that love can make an ordinary person do extraordinary things.

Familiar and Forgiveness references forgiveness of self and others from losses, mistakes, misgivings and human errors, in tones varying between humour and skepticism, grief and redemption, and honesty and absurdity. The first section, Familiar, is from the wry, droll, imaginative, and sometimes melancholy point of view of my familiar or alter ego, Cujo. The second section, Forgiveness, expresses my healing through interaction with natural elements: trees, wind, faeries, sprites, the Archangel Gabriel and Celtic cards. This part expresses a woman's transformation from brokenness to wholeness and her transformation from breakdown to breakthrough, as well as environmental exhortations to heal our planet. Familiar and Forgiveness is replete with allusions to mystic traditions and contemplative wisdom and feminist spirituality. My work stylistically adheres to traditional verse forms (employing rhyme, fixed stanza structures, and metrical patterns). Yet, it just as easily veers into the contemporary with meta-textual references to William Carlos Williams, my ancestor the Welsh mystic Henry Vaughan, the Welsh goddess Cerridwen, pagan deities, Wicca, and shamanic and divinatory lore.
