The title "Scholars of the Storm(s)" gives credence to the fact that Tulane University's (New Orleans, Louisiana. USA) international students were confronted by an actual storm, Hurricane Ida, almost upon arrival for the Fall semester. Their stories highlight the synthesis of struggles relating to Ida, the precious year spent in online learning and the myriad of acculturation issues facing international students initially at an American university. The convergence of these factors presented a multitude of "storms" swirling simultaneously. Their stories, candor, and unbelievable strength of character demands a platform, for there exists great inspiration in their voices.

2023 marked the ten year anniversary of my son Alex Araeipour's passing. I decided to pay tribute to him by publishing his book "Colors" that he wrote and illustrated for a high school English class assignment. He suffered from a mental illness starting in ninth grade. He experienced and observed examples of acceptance and compassion over his life time along with experiences of intolerance and discrimination based on being "different" in appearance or personality etc. to those around him who didn't make the effort to really get to know him. He was full of love, creativity, kindness, and compassion. His message in the book "Colors" is about being proud of who you are and accepting of other people's differences.

In five volumes we focus on each instrument group, keyboard, string, wind, percussion and voice. QR codes provide short videos to better demonstrate the concepts and with renown guest artists we discuss the general principal and the unique challenges for each instrument family.
